So, I never thought twice about the little hole in my inspection cover at the base of it....until now.

I pulled it off to clean it so it didn't look like pigpen next to my nice shiney transmission oil pan:Brow: and this is what I found....a big hole and a smaller little cut just ahead of it...and a bunch of hammer marks.

Did the convertor or flywheel explode at one time and destroy this thing? Or did they bottom the car out and dent the cover up so that it made the flywheel/convertor cut into it? So they pulled it off and hammered it out to make it work...

Does the convertor look like an original? It looks awfully new to me. My transmission has always had a really nice stiff 1-2 shift...I wonder if this thing's been rebuilt.

    Adam,
That looks like an original, and yes, it looks like the car was bottomed out and the flywheel was hungry.

    Hmmmm

I thought those were the Century's fresh air vents. Not only did they keep things cooler, but also served as an alternate route for leaking trans fluid.

Adam, I guess great minds think alike. I have been doing the same thing the last couple of days, I got a new pan, and the inspection cover was rusted and dented. Here it is after pounding out the dents and sanding the rust off...

Adam, if you want to ship me your cover, I can get it welded up and painted for you, no charge. I know some good welders! Let me know! :TU:

Derek, I may try this one myself...it'll be a good reason for me to get some use of the mig welder we have at the shop:Brow:

Yep, it's a TCI. Got it at Jegs...it was the only thing they had in stock to fit my car besides motor oil! It was about $120.00 bucks, but worth it IMO. Gotta have a drain bolt! Not to mention, the stock pan had seen better days for sure. 2 more quarts capacity too!
