Hi all. I am looking at getting insurance on my Buick and need some info. I have a 1955 Buick Special. 81000 miles mostley original. I have new fenders going on the front as well as repairing the rear doglegs. Other than that there is some surface rust. The chrome is pitted but all there. The floors and trunk are all solid. The interior is in need of refreshing. Needs carpet and headliner. She runs well. I checked with Hagerty Ins. They insure restoration projects. They say the minimum value they insure is $3500. Since there are not a ton of Buicks for sale like Chevy's I am trying to get an accurate value. Can anyone let me know what a realistic value is on my car. I have also checked Grundy but they don't insure under restoration. Any other suggestions. I hope to have it on the road this summer but would like to insure it now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Michael

Appraisal I had a local appraisal person out to the house a couple years ago. He wrote up his paperwork and I got the requisite photos that Hagerty required. That coupled with an advanced driving class certificate (occupational requisite) created a insurance premium for the Buick that I could live with.
appraisal? SO is it a big ordeal to get it appraised? They won't just take a declared value? I wonder if my car is less than 3500 value if I can insure it as a classic car? I might put 10k on it per year will that fly with the insurance company? I was going to try haggerty.
I'm not sure they will insure it for more than it could possibly be worth, but I insured my GS for 20 K with Haggerty and they said fine... 190.00 per YEAR full coverage. Ask 'em- they seem great to work with. Frank
