Looking to gussy up my "old" 455 to install in the '68 Riviera. New bolts all around, gaskets, etc. Can I swap intake bolts without replacing the intake gasket.. as in, remove a bolt and replace it, one at a time? I have a hunch I might ruin the sealing of the intake but thought I'd ask. Thanks.
Shouldn't be a problem. :TU: What bolts are you using? Just curious. I got a full engine kit from Totally Stainless through Year-one. They were nothing too fancy, but they ARE stainless. It seems the kit was about $30.00 delivered. Check it out if you don't already have new bolts. Very nice kit. Everything individually packaged and labeled. Just a thought.
The bolts go into 'blind' holes that do not penetrate any water or oil passages Recheck torque after 24 hours; I've had intake bolts finger tight sooner than that after installing a new intake gasket and driving the car
Very good, thanks! I'll have the engine on the stand for awhile before install so re-torque is no problem. Might as well build my plug wires out of the car, too.
Glad to hear you're working on that Riv again. Great that everything turned out OK for you on the title issues..... uzzled:
Yeah John, got tired of looking at it outside. Not going to go all out on it but will get it on the road by Spring. Lotsa other stuff going on between the two cars so it'll be a busy winter.
FYI... when I start an engine where the intake was either just bolted on or bolted on and retorqued over a few day period, I ALWAYS keep a wrench handy and as it is warming up i go around and keep tightening the intake bolts. They ALWAYS loosen up when the engine first warms up.
