Can anyone tell me if there are drawings available anywhere for the dimensions of the old B262 intake for the 401? I have somecontacts over seas and can possibly have some cast as I have to believe there is a market for them. Being VERY new to Buick, I did not realize they were no longer made. Tim
Tim this is already in the works. Check out Nailhead Buick over at Yahoo Groups. We (Steve) have sent a B262 to a fellow who does molds and hopefully it will continue until we have a batch of 25 made. :TU:
Tim, If you have an idea on repro of a dualquad, go for it. The yahoo board seems to have a lot of folks that enjoy picking fights with one another. I would love to see one made with stock height , as the aftermarket ones probably would not fit under the stock hood.
Single 4 Mr. Faso is now somehow in possession of a small foundry. :Brow: He wants to do a high flow 401/425 Nailhead single four barrel intake manifold in aluminum instead of a 2x4 manifold. He was thinking of making it to fit both the Quadrajet and Holley. I don't know about the rest of you, but I said I would take one or two. The 455s seem to do just fine with one carburetor. p Cheryl
I take it that when you said the intakes will be for the rochester or holley, that means this will be a spread bore intake? I know holley makes the economizer carb , and the old rochesters , which were same diameter, four barrels. It would be pretty cool to be able to run a q-jet on an aluminum intake.
B262 Edelbrock Here is a pic of a B262 Edelbrock dual quad Nailhead intake: I might in interested in one - depending on price ... ?
More On the Single Four The manifold will be machined to accept the spread bore or Holley square bore as I understand it (like the TA 350 manifold). That way Quadrajet fans would be happy and Holley square bore (4150 series) people would also be happy. Cheryl
Did anyone talk to vic? I just wondered if anyone had talked to Vic Edlebrock about the dimensions. If he isn't planning to re make the manifold, he may be interrested in a small fee to release (License) the manifold to someone else. if the fee is small enough, it would be worth it. there are a lot of his friends on this board and on the net. Just my two cents worth
I think Edelbrock where contacted by someone from the Yahoo Nailhead group and their reaction was basically that if they could care less about Nailhead intakes they would. No mention of releasing drawings and I think that they said the old moulds where long gone.
Vic gave us the dick Sorry to have to put it that way but Bill is right Edelbrock has been contacted and they have no interest in doing a small run of anything. They claim the molds are long gone. Someone with legal/patent rights says the manifold is clear for remake as long as you don't use any of their names/numbers on it. Thats fine with me. Things are in the works and in the mean time it looks like Bills and my Buick 2x4's we be getting massaged by G eS slers :beer
Yep, I'm having both a Quadrajet and Dual quad intake massaged by Greg. Can't wait to test :Brow: them.
I guess this is two part... I would be interested in the aluminum single 4 bbl intake if it fits under a 65 riviera hood and doesn't cost a fortune. I would appreciate it if someone could keep me up to date on its progress <<zzerolove@yahoo.com>>. Also, I just picked up a 66 intake for my 401 and I'm looking for recommendations from people who've put Q-jets on 401s. I've been told to go as big as possible but I'd like some more input from anyone out there with experience in this matter - 750? 795? 850? Edelbrock? rebuilt? Thanks, Zach
Definately go for an 800cfm (or even the new 850cfm Edelbrock). Do a search on this board on what carbs are the 800's and then research how to make them work better (air valve, secondary rods ...etc). I've done exactly that on my 401 and am pleased with the difference it made.
b262 manifold I contacted Edelbrock less than 2 weeks ago about releasing at least dimensional drawings and they gave me some "BS" answer that essentially means "NO WAY". I thought I read something a few weeks ago that said a guy was working on it and cost projections were forthcoming. Anyone know status?
Headers are always a good idea but finding a correctly designed set is quite another matter. http://www.headersbyed.com will give you some ideas and will debunk some of the more common myths as well. I suggest his information pack and audio tape. You'll never look at another set of headers the same again.
Any thoughts on the shorty headers from TA Performance? They are the only ones I know of for nailheads... Z
