Intake manifold question

I'm trying to put a rochester quadrajet back on my 350 engine, and I'm noticing that my engine block is an organ/red color, which I had originally thought to be simply a paint job some yahoo had previously put on the block. Well, I'm using the edelbrock choke pulloff spring for my carb, and the intake manifold hole for the heat vent choke system doesn't seem to have a screw hole for my choke pulloff. I was told that the pulloff fits down inside the manifold, but even if I bolt it onto the rim of the hole, the screws provided don't match up to the holes drilled in the manifld. Is it possible I either got the wrong pulloff assembly, or is it more likely that someone switched either my intake manifld or me entire engine? Where would I find the serial numbers for the manifld and engine block?

    Edited to add:

OK, I noticed something else. Most intake manifolds sit on top of the block, but this one is actually shaped like this:

    www.taperformance.com/ 350stage.htm

With a big plate covering where there's a hole in the manifold instead of the regular small platform the choke spring attached to. Is there maybe a choke spring made aftermarket that would fit this?

    Mange,

The easiest way to tell if you have a Buick 350 under your hood, which I suspect you do, is to look at the rear of the intake manifold, if you see the numbers "350" then you can assume your engine is all Buick. The stock 350 intake has a choke well cast into it where the Quadrajet's divorced choke drops into and then is covered with a small plate that is held down with one bolt. You didn't mention if this is the original Quadrajet that you are trying to put back on, but if it is, it sounds as if your choke assy is the wrong one...more like an (ugh) Chevy style. Those wacky things are kind of upside down from the Buick's. They mount on top of the intake and then are covered by a small can. Sorry that I can't answer your question about where to get the correct choke...but there are plenty of Quadrajet rebuilding shops out there that might be able to help you out. :TU:

Yeah, that's what mine looked like (the intake). The number "350" does, indeed, appear on the back of the block, above the linkage to the transmission, and just below the intake. Also, the intake has a code that starts with "B", which I assume is for Buick. Where would the engine erial numbers be, though. The assembly they tried to sell me was an Ebelbrock assembly that sat on top of the manifold with a small, dome-shaped cover (probably the one you mentined from the chevy engine). I found www.carbs.net, they seem to have a wide selection of chokes for my model of car.

You might by chance have TA's Stage 1 350 intake manifold, and somebody ground off the Stage 1 at the front of the manifold. TA's intake still has "350" cast into the rear of it. Mark
