I recently saw an Offenhauser Buick 455 dual plane intake off of a 71 or 72 model for sale. Wondered if anyone knew anything about them and some possible details (rpm range and etc.) Thanks.
I did a search on it here at this site. The reviews were not good. Poor flow to certain cylinders. Not a gain over stock, except for weight.
here is your answer I think your asking about the Offy 360 degree intake. Good intake for the street. Idle- about 6000. Had one on my 455 and liked it, good response but needed to clean up the ports on the one I had. It had a lot of casting flash and the ports didn't line up right compared to the intake gaskets ( compared to three other sets of gaskets I had) It does have the notch just below the carb " to aid in high rpm breathing"> Either way it was a good intake and of course was 70 pounds lighter then stock.
Thanks John. I was curious about it since I didn't have a clue. I see you have a 55 Buick powered Chevy truck. Is it a big block? I just started getting my stuff together to put a Buick 455 in my 66 Chevy truck. Thanks for the info.
Mine is a 350 truck. My grandfather bought this truck in 1958. My father bought it from him in 1970. In 1972, he installed a low mileage 68' 350 Buick in it from a sportwagon. He gave it to me shortly after. I grew up in 2 vehicles, this truck and a 66 Riv, so that explains me being here on this board. Now I have the truck almost finished with a fresh 350. Been a 10 year job, and may take 10 more with all I know. But, I Love it. My brother has the 66 Riv restored now. I have a dual quad Offy intake and was not pleased to find the shape of the runners on the floor of the intake. Too flat. Jim Burek can work these things and make them run better. I run an Edelbrock on my 455. The new Performer. It basically just makes the engine lighter with no Performance gains too. But the stock ram air breather works with it. Good luck!
