Hey gang I'm new here, but I have had my car for 8 months. its a white 67 Electra 4 door h/t and i just would like some hints on a new intake, makin it growl, and what carb to get...it all works good, but I am a former ricer (not my choice) and have always loved that v8 roar. If anyone could give me NE hints it'd be appreciated.

    Hey there,

Unless you're going to be doing quite a bit to it, an intake swap may not be worth the money. If you want the, "Hey, it's got an aluminum intake" feeling then go with a Performer. Don't expect much in the way of a power gain though. You could try to track down one of the older B4B intakes, but you'll pay a premium. A Performer will set you back $200+ anyhow, although one just went the other day for $125 Buy it Now on ebay. I could have grabbed it, but I didn't need it.

As far as the carbs go, it's tough to beat a well-built Quadrajet for the street Big Block Buick. You'd be better off sending a 71 or later (800 cfm) 455 carb out to someone who knows what they're doing than buying a Holley or other aftermarket performance carb.

As far as exhaust goes, it's all up to your taste in sound. I've always like the Walker Dynomax Hemi Super Turbo (long case) mufflers. The 2.5" is part number 17749. A good set of duals would go nicely.

If you ever hit any of the local car shows, you may see a white 62 Skylark convert (red interior) with buckets and a 4spd. That's my mom's car. My dad likes to take it out once in a while. They live over in Dewey.

    Good luck.

Your choke set up etc. is designed in the stock intake and Q jet. Get a $200 Qjet redo and save the money you thought you were going to spend on a Holley for something that will make a difference such as the things listed above.

Yep, for the street I prefer the QJ... even for a street/strip car. Someone who knows how to set them up right is important though.

In my previous GS455, I bracket raced it (mid 13's) and it was very consistent. It fired right up on the choke, and it came off the choke when it was supposed to. This ended when I went to the aluminum intake though. I had to battle a slow to heat up choke coil on the aluminum intake, plus I blocked off the heat crossover underneath.

Rick Henderson has already went 11.9's on the smaller 1970 Qjet and gotten decent gas mileage on a highway trip. With his built 800, I expect a lot of improvement over the 1970 with just a quick rebuild kit. This is a car that went 11.69 with a 950 Holley HP carb.

Of course these are my opinions, take them as part of the rest of the advice you will receive.

I cannot think of any reason why someone would want to do that.

Ugh... they STILL make cherry bombs!?

I always prefer a clean exhaust over a loud, ratty one.

okeydokey, just a thought. I know a couple of shops that'll put on some flowmasters and the tubing for like $350. I just wanted to see what the general opinion of Jimmy riggin an exhaust.

Go with a 2.5" dual exhaust system with an X pipe crossover and dynomax super turbo muffs. I LOOOOVE mine.

If you don't feel like spending $100 on an X connection, then just do the straight back dual setup. Either way, your engine will like it!!

what is the advantage of an x-pipe, my friend has a 02 mustang gt, and got an x-pipe and it sounds mean, but does it do anything other than that?

You plate wouldn't happen to be NCC-1701 would it? Not sure it that accurate but I think we're on the same page.:TU:
As for that 430 with a less restrictive air cleaner and element, dual exhaust and good overall drive line maintenance you'll have no problem embarrassing many on the street.
Zach who is on here has his deuce boiling the rear tire.
