I used to love going to the junkyards back when I was in high school just to walk around and look at the cars and imagine them when they were new. I remember some pretty rare cars now that I didn't realize were rare back then, like a `64 Impala SS409 convertible. Heck, I still watch old movies just to see the cars. There aren't many yards around here that have anything old anymore. A couple years ago when the price of scrap went up they crushed them all. There was a `67 Electra with a 430 in it that I wanted, and this was a running car when they brought it in. The guy told me $300 for the engine with everything on it. He said they would pull it out for me but I asked if I could do it, or at least get it ready and have them lift it out, mainly because his idiots would have torched everything and yanked it out. He said I could, but when I went back a few weeks later it was gone, he crushed it :ball: I guess I should have paid for it first, but this guy wasn't exactly the most trustworthy person in the world.

OK V-8 Buick People: How can you tell if the owners of these cars care less or not?

If they really cared about the cars they would be advertised somewhere for a fantasy price. Mitch

I made a trip Iowa a few years back. There are allot of cars laying around out in farm fields. I met a couple of strange characters there. One guy must have had 100 cars on his property. He was not a salvage yard either. All were various models. Even a 66 or 67 GS rotting away there along with a 66 Special convert in a barn. He had barns full as well that I was unable to look at. The guy also had various 442 cars and 63 Special that was near perfect condition. Another guy I bought a 65 Wildcat 2 door for $100. It was sitting for about 25-30 years on his property. He also had some Buick hearses. I tried to buy a few cars but the guy did not want to sell. He had a story for every car and said it was a project of his. The guy was in his upper years and would never be able to comlete all of the projects. He actually would have been able to retire if he sold some of the cars out in the field. He had a 68 Olds 4442 Conver 4 speed rotting away. It was a complete car. I wish I could add the photos from that trip but they are too large and are on my work computer. But someday I'll make it back out to Iowa with a trailer.

No, Ed. It is still sitting there where I saw it 2 years ago. I even rekindled my interest in it since prices continue to rise. BTW, it is a 3-speed.

    Hey Bill....you will love this.

About 8 miles North of my house there is a farm For Sale. Being a REALTOR, I stopped to look the farm over and found this car sitting, rotting away. Here is what I found.....It is an original 1964 Impala SS, numbers matching, 409 4-speed that also is a one-owner....until 2006 when I buried him at the funeral home. That is when I got interested in the car. Well, emotions were high and timing was not. I talked to his son and he told me that his dad bought the car while in Vietnam and I saw a Poleroid original picture of him with the car new. However, dad got into bikes and the car was parked with 1985 license plates on it. He also had a '65 Malibu and '70 Corvette in the barn. The son told me he was going to trade the SS for a paint job on the Vette. So, it still sits. There is also a 1949 Chevrolet Fleetline Deluxe on the property with a 235 ci engine still in it sitting on the back of the property with a few other cars. eg. 1986 T-Bird, 1970 El Camino, Flying J, etc.
    Read 'em and weep. :ball:

Greg I talked with the owner today of that 66 Wildcat that you asked about and he has sold the car in the last year. Sorry.

I noticed a couple 68 Skylarks. 1 appeared to have the wheel opening chrome. Is it still there and available?

Haven't been to the yard in a couple of years and I hope they are still there. The owner is a little "Fruity" and doesn't seem to want to sell anything. Lots of snow here and I won't be back that way until late spring or summer.
