Well I will finally be dropping of my Skylark at the bodyyshop this week and I have to decided to upgrade it for its debut. The motor is a .030 over(with notches) '76 455 with '73 ported heads converted to Stage I valves. It only has about two thousand miles on it but it was at this stage (after broken in completly ) that I had planned on switching to EFI anyway.
I want to order a set of stage IIs for it and an intake ( the new SPX?) and weld bungs and get that part going.
My question is , I know that new headers are in order but should I have to change anything else . Do I HAVE to use the extra headbolts for example or should this 10.5 to 1 motor be ok. I am not worried about valve clearance because there is no cam change. I am forgetting anything? I am not a regular buick builder but I have been doing car stuff for a while and just want to avoid any issues.
    Thanks
    George

SPX (and I think the original Wildcat intake) already has EFI bungs, just drill and tap for the injectors....

Even though the SPX does have the injector bosses cast in place it is in T/A's own word the least streetable of the two single plane intakes.

I would be interested to know if the "Limited street use, this intake prefers higher RPM, low RPM driving results in fuel dropping out of the charge and can lead to raw fuel in the cylinders" is helped with the injector versus the carb.

No need for the extra head bolts with that compression,I have 12 to 1 and 11.7 to 1 on 2 motors with al. stage 2's and iron stage 2's ,respectively, and don't use the extra bolts on the al.never a problem with either..You'll need to trim the ex header gasket near the dip stick tube to get the tube to go in easy,do it before installing its easier.

Why not go for the TE heads and get the intake for it at the same time?

My daily-driver has an SP-1 with EFI, and it works great at all points in the RPM curve.

With FI, the fuel "dropping out" isn't so much of a concern because air velocity is not required for good atomization.

I assume you will be doing a lot of street driving?

    Bob ,
which ignition are you using and which efi. I currently have the digital Mallory and matching control box. I know the FAST stuff is good but I dont know if thier hall effect is compatible. I also have a stray crank trigger around that I could use as a trigger.
    What do you think?

I use the Speedpro, about 4 years old (now FAST). I highly recommend it. FAST is just coming out with their XFI.

Honestly, I forget what distributor I have- either a Mallory or Accel. All of the branding is gone! I got the distributor about 4 years ago also. It looks almost like a points distributor. A crank trigger would be nice also, but I gotta say that my timing seems to be very consistent.

I have also heard good things about the BigStuff 3- but I think right now I would look closer at the XFI.

Also, for Torqued, you don't need to use the fifth bolt hole.

    Hey John ,
The only this is I want to use the big throttle body so I need a dominator flange . I have the edlelbrock on the car if you need it .

I have heard some good stuff about the BigStuff 3 too. I talked to the Fast guys at the PRI show --seems like a good product. We are actually considering it for the race car...
