I was tearing a 350 down this weekend to get it off to the machine shop and wondered what year the heads are. They have a large (73) cast on the front exhuast port. These are raised letters. Is it that easy or is this some other designation? Thanks Clint
Well Clint, I have a '72 350 and I'm almost positive the heads were never changed, and they say 73 on them too. It's not that easy. I think there's another number farthur back on the heads that may indicate what year. A lot of people on here could probably help with that, but I don't have any of my literature with me.
The year is cast onto the heads. You have 73 heads. Basically all 350 Buicks have the same head from 68-80.
Thats strange. I thought my car was completly stock when I got it, but with what you said George, I'm beginning to question that. Who knows what else I will find thats been altered...uzzled:
Sloppy The factories got sloppy... I have a late-in-the-year '72 350..and my heads say '73'.. Late in '72 when the factories ran out of '72 heads...they put '73 heads on the engines..it was what was next in-line for assembly. I am sure I have the original engine..Sloan said my car had an engine block heater ordered on it...and I still got the engine heater with the cord looking like it was 30+ years old! So, the number on heads is close..but not always absolutely correct. Stanley
Thanks guys, It threw me off because the rods weren't cap screw. ou: That makes sense about the 72 block with 73 heads. I will have to try another one to get some good rods. Thanks Clint
