I was doing something on my car, and decided to weigh it. It was a little over 7 lbs on each side. It was not my purpose to lighten the car. But I was curious ounce I was done. 14 lbs is 14 lbs. So i figure it was a good thing.
I scraped all tbe ubdercoating from the rear wheel wells. Buzzed and primered. Then used rustolium leak seal. A rubber based sealer but not like that undercoating crap. Stays smooth so wont trap dirt. I couldnt believe 7 pounds from each side.
My Skylark was once 3910 pounds and now it’s 2980 pounds. 15 pounds at a time you too can have a light fast car.
Reminds me - back in the day switching to aluminum wheels was touted as having the benefit of reducing unsprung weight. Well for ha-has when I switched from stock steels to 8 x 18 Torq Thrusts & 235 55 rubber I weighed one of each. I forget the numbers now but the new combo was a good few pounds heavier... but they do look good! To my eye Bob
It makes it easier to get off the floor, and it makes your di*k look bigger. Losing weight on the car, or elsewhere is all the same. I used to race bikes with folks that were obsessed about a few ounces and would spend dearly. Then they would eat a few more doughnuts.
If the weight is closer to the center of the wheel, it matters less than on the outer portion of the tire.
