Looking at the AMD Roof skin which claims '68-'72 compatibility (Chevelle also). https://www.autometaldirect.com/pro...ocETkHodIHNTundy0agsvGdJrN47bLOQaAvToEALw_wcB Is this roof the same as a 1968 Special Deluxe Post car roof? I tore my vinyl too of yesterday (finally) and now can see the actual damage in the metal. Anyone have experience/feedback on this product?
Same happened to me. I have used AMD panels and they are good enough. I used them for a wheel well patch, and the trunk panel. There are plenty of people on YT patching the roof, all of them say that the replacement needs adjustment because AMD made the roof for almost all GM A body cars. As soon as I touched the roof with heat the roof warped inward pretty bad. The metal on the roof is very thin, I could not even use a weld on stud puller to straighten out the sheet metal, the studs pull out. I tried just about everything to straighten out the roof, including trying to shrink the metal back with a torch and cold water. I ended up using fiber glass and then a layer of filler. I figure it is a problem for future me, maybe if it fails in the next few years, I can find someone out there more skilled than I am with a welder. I don't know your skill level, but mine is "good enough" for patch panels. If you are more advanced and experienced then don't let my experience stop you. Hopefully this is helpful.
