Is this a small block or big block?i really cant tell, the guy says its a 400 but the valve covers look like 350 covers?
George, Can't see the valve covers with the glare. If the covers have 6 bolts, it's a 350, 5 bolts it's a BBB.
Yea but Larry correct me if i`m wrong, those look like buick 350 valve covers no?i never seen that style cover for 400-430-455?is there a way to tell from the manifold?water neck maybe? Thanks
i have a pair of 350" valve covers that look alot like those George. but i really cant tell for sure in the pix. one thing on the 350"s though, if its a stock intake it has 350 cast into it in, like, 2 " tall numbers on the back. really easy to see with the air cleaner off. sorry i couldn't help anymore......... c-yaaaaaaaaaaaa
i'm pretty sure it's a big block. if you zoom in the the right valve cover, it gets pixelated but it looks apparant that no bolt 'indention' in the cover is present past that breather, which makes it look like there ar only two bolts over there. i'm sure someone else can tell from another part of the motor to be sure?
Hi George I am only familiar with 67 Skylarks, and that looks like a 67 Skylark firewall to me. And further more...all mine have either had a 455 or a 300 in them, so I'm not familiar with the 350 either. But if I had to venture a guess, I would say it's a big block. My only reasoning is that the valve cover is very close to the power brake booster. It seems that small blocks are quite a bit farther away, and big blocks almost hit. They are so close, in fact, that if you use tall ones like the finned cast aluminum ones from Poston, you can barely get the drivers side off. Thankfully they are tapered on the back corners. There's my two cents. That's prolly all it's worth too. :gt:
???engine My 350 has "350 embossed on the drivers side of the lower block. I took the picture and played with some gammacorrection and some colors maybe you can see a little better now.
Fellas its a 350,i made the guy go and count the bolts holding the valve covers he told they are 6 so its a small block and he was listing it as a 400. Thanks
Just a footnote for those whose guessed it could only be a BBB due to the small clearance to the brake booster. A 340 also has small clearance and was common in 1967 cars.
I dont know if your able to see this engine with your own eyes, but towards the back of the original intake (if it has it still) is a C.I. stamping 350's had a "350" stamped on the back of the intake...I don't know if the 455's had this stamping as well, but I know my 350 does :Smarty: . Larry
What is this car, a Skylark? Did the Skylark have a "Custom 400" version? My LeSabre is a "Custom 400", but has a factory 350. It says "Custom 400" on the side of the car, so I've been asked at least once if the engine was a 400. Your seller may have made that assumption, not knowing that the "Custom 400" is a th400 tranny......... or at least I assume it is........ it's the only 400 I have in my car...... the tranny. 350cid
The seller has added he has a 400 or 455 that goes with the car since its a small block. I wonder if he has the A/C parts that are needed.
it could be a clone,if you look closely the GS 400 emblem on the driver side is backwards and the dash says Skylark and not GS 400,and look closely at the VIN tag on the firewall it looks shifty. thanks
