    Hey all,

Need your help. A friend's neighbor has this old GSX emblem, that he says he bought from a GM dealership many years ago, and wants my buddy to put on ebay and sell it for him for whatever he can get for it (he doesn't want to sell it outright as he doesn't know what it is worth, and I am pretty sure it is worth more than the $5 or so he paid for it new).

We want to make sure it is real before putting it on ebay, so I need your opinions, feedback, advice, etc. Please FEEL FREE TO CRITICIZE. Want you to be honest, as the last thing he wants is to advertise it as NOS if it isn't. We think it is, but it never hurts to get more opinions. If you need more info or pictures or measurements, just ask!

I have larger files of the same pictures available by email, just send me your address if you want to see them.

The first thing I noticed is that none of the numbers seem to match each other. Are they supposed to? The # on the part is 1235917, but that isn't the number on the piece of paper in the box or the box????

    Thanks in advance, Chris

My vote is that it's the real deal. In my experience, numbers that appear on parts like that are casting numbers as opposed to part numbers.

Tell him I'll give him $10 for it. Double his investment!

Thanks Scott and Greg! I am sure he will be pleased. Once he lists it, I will post the item number on the board for anyone interested.

    Aha!

Another obvious FAKE, don't you dare put that on ebay. Better sell it to me.

    Better than Blue Chips

    Chris,

    #1394799=1970 GSX grille emblem
the 2#9420254 was the speed nuts for installation
in April of 1976 the part had a GM list price of $5.75.
    Discontinued 02/79.
I saw one about 10yrs ago at an auto flea market go for $250.00.
Better return for the buck than the stock market. :Dou:

If you were to get a repro...

Can anyone tell me if the reproduction GSX emblems are nice? I have a NOS grille I bought on ebay for my GSX resto, and now I need the emblem. I don't want to cheapen the car, but I also don't want to pay $600 for the emblem either. Who has seen a repro emblem, and is there any recommendations on who to get one from?

    Thanks!

    repro

Hi James,I have a repro GSX emblem for my car.I think it looks nice and when installed would be fine. The only problem I see with the repro is it seems to be cast in brass so it is soft compared to a original;ie bends fairly easy when off the car and I am sure one must use some care when installing as the studs could probably break off if care isn't used to install.Once installed shouldn't have any problems.I too would like a original or like to see a better repro but at the same time I think any of my buick money could be better spent on other items than a $500.00 emblem.

I could be wrong, I've never owned an X but...

I recall Flynbuick describing the repro X grille emblem as a thin, cheap repro, noticeably different. I also think Duane mentioned it too once... The edges not as sharp, etc... :Brow:

    Yep, you'll be bidding... :eek2:

Thanks for the info on the repro emblems, Rusty and Dan.

Chris - Let us know when the emblem is on ebay, and if it will have a reserve. Thanks.

Dan is probably right about the edges not being as sharp as an original as I'm going from memory here and it has been awhile since I looked at it as well.I know that other Buick GS emblems have been reproed that are as good as a factory piece in looks and materials,it would seem that someone would have done a top notch repro of the GSX emblem by now. That said;after my car is restored and the big money spent I might be willing to spend big money on a original emblem;but by then a nice repro will probable be availible for a reasonable price.I have bid on several original NOS and used GSX emblems in the past and they always go past my maximum quickly. No doubt this piece will go for top dollar.

Don't overlook that the GSX emblems are different from 70 to 71.

    #1394799=1970
    #1394871=1971

Is this a 70 or 71-2? :Do No:

Even if it were the wrong year for my car, I would probably still bid the same. That is because you could possibly swap it down the road for the right year.

I don't think there is EVER going to be a new mold made for these emblems, because of the low volume that could be sold. :(
