Jamie's Powder Coating Lansing, NY is a thief. Their Ebay account is now locked but after 495 positive feedback they decided to start ripping people off. I am not alone but out of a good chunk of change on 5 pounds of super mirror black powder. That I needed / need badly. I have customers waiting for part to be shipped myself. I did a little digging but once I find the info for their local police department, Ill file a report. Along with their local news "call for action" department. I check out that site and don't like it. Not one price listed just a phone number. I hate dealing with salesmen. I have switch around from place to place though. [Price is my deciding factor.] http://www.pendrypowdercoatings.com being one of the most reasonable ones. They sell 2 lbs for $15 but auction off 2 lbs for $10 often. Only reason I bought from that jamies is it was 5lbs for a "good" price. I often troll ebay first before I buy. But Pendry has been good to me and so has the powder. ------------ That person above is now selling under the name chloeroscoesnickers I have reported it as it is so obvious.
I just bought 5lbs of super mirror black and 4lbs of chrome from them. The price was great. Shipping took a little longer than I expected. Didn't even gouge me on the shipping cost. I haven't used the powder, since I don't have my gun yet. I was planning to buy again when I got started. Guess not. Daryn
Hey guys Can I ask, do you guys do your powdercoating at home or do you have shops. I have been doing some reading on home powdercoating and I am not sure how good it would turn out. Any direction is appreciated
Well after several threats and paypal stepping in on my behalf I now have my powder. Though I have not tried it yet to see if it even right.
What kind of price did you pay??? I just hate calling anybody for prices. Most of the time you are talking to a salesmen and they don't make money unless they sell.
I do it in my shed. I only do smaller parts and do use a modified house oven. I have an infrared head where I could do larger parts but have stuck to smaller oven size items for convince. You don't need $20,000 in equipment to do it just know that when it come to the safety gear you should spend some bucks. Its some dangerous stuff to breath. And the powder goes everywhere. Its almost best to pay a few buck and let someone else do it. But you can do some home powder coating for maybe $300. Assuming you already have an old oven to use [ can't cook in it anymore] and an air compressor and a sandblasting cabinet. Just don't buy Eastwood stuff. Harbor freight sells a better hobby gun.[ I used one for a bit and found it worked great if you kept one hand on the air knob and adjusted as needed on the fly. I actually just taped the trigger down and used just the air knob to control it.] Id say the worst part is powder coating sticks by using static electricity. So you gotta keep the area clean, don't pet the dog or cat before hand. Best to have some painter suites to cover you up. Stuff will just come out of no where and muck up your work. Though powder is like paint where you can / could wet sand and buff out any crap. half the reason I do it is I hate chrome. Chrome rust and takes up so much of your time. powder is great for motorcycle parts. Here is a test fender I was working on. http://www.viragotech.com/XVFinishes/fendertest.html
I got it all for about $62 delivered. I thought that was pretty good considering everyone else is so much higher. Even though I'm not ready to use it, I couldn't pass up the deal. I still need to get the shop ready and get my oven(s) built. Then I'll be able to do bumpers, wheels, etc. Daryn
I have not used my infrared head but lots of people just cure it that way but you need a good size clean empty space. But the chances of something floating by and sticking in your work is greater.
http://www.columbiacoatings.com/Infrared.htm They are a bit pricey on powder and stuff but they cut me a major deal on a big order. I spent like $1500 and got $5000 worth of stuff. I bought the whole store pretty much.
