I would like to purchase a copy of the above edition and cannot locate one. If anyone has one which they would be willing to sell let me know.

Keep a watch on ebay if no one here can help, old mags turn up on there frequently.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I have done that without results.

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

    I can sorta help you..

I know you probably want the real thing, but if you want I can scan my copy and email it to you. Just let me know.

Many people hold this road test in high regard because they recorded the fastest time ever published by a magazine for our beloved Stage 1. Unfortunately it is a poor article and doesn't even show a complete picture of either of the test cars (they say they tested an automatic and a 4-speed car). No underhood photos, no interior photos, nothing! The only real photos shown are of an engine on a stand that must be for a big Buick (it has a single snorkle non-ram air, air cleaner and painted valve covers), and a Buick supplied photo showing all of the Stage 1 components lying on a table (cam, carb, distributor, fuel pump, ring gear and pinion, heads, and strangely a piston). They article brags about how fast the cars were in a straight line and said "A revitalized "Stage 1" is good for blowing the fenders off some self-proclaimed leaders". So it's funny that they rave about the cars in this 3 page article and can't even show a real photo?! Almost reminds me of a bogus article you might see printed in the GSX-tra :)

If interested I also have the following magazine road tests for the '70 Stage 1 that I can also scan and send if you want:

    - GS, standard interior w/ bench seat 4-speed, no A/C, "Road Test Magazine" 14.26@101.12
    - GSX, white, automatic, PW, no A/C, (early production car with plastic radiator cover and clear toped overflow tank), "Road Test magazine" 13.95 @ 100.50
    - GS, automatic with A/C, "Cars" Magazine, 14.20 @100
    - GSX, Yellow, automatic, no A/C, "Cars" Magazine 14.00 @ 103
    - GSX, White, automatic, Same car test by "Road Test" (same license plates), Car Craft, 14.31 @100.22 stock, 13.66 @ 100 with slicks
    - GS, Hot Rod magazine but same car tested by "Cars", bench seat automatic w/ A/C, 14.40 @ 96 (tested in the Arizona desert, HOT!)
    - GS, Same car as tested by Cars and Hot Rod, looks like desert again, 14.6 @95.2
    - GS, Jan-1970 Motor Trend, 4-speed: 13.79@104.50, automatic: 13.38 @ 105.50

There is still at least 1 1970 Stage 1 road test that I know I am missing.

I collect vintage road tests and have 100's (maybe a over a 1000, I've never counted) of them neatly organized for quick reference. It's interesting reading, but must be taken with a grain of salt due to the rule of "not saying anything unless it's positive, otherwise might make an advertiser mad". The exception is Road Test magazine which didn't allow automotive advertising and therefore could say whatever they wanted! Road test also frequently got their test cars from dealer lots and not from the factory.

Gary, I realize this is off topic a little but I think there should be a sticky thread in the Buick FAQ section with the test results for the cars most of us have on this site. It is interesting to have some baseline data for when our cars were new so we have something to compare to. All I have is copy of a Jan 70 Consumer Reports article they did on the Intermediate cars. I have trouble believing their results. They tested a 70 Skykark 350 4 door 350-2. They claimed a 0-60 of 11.5 and a quarter mile time of 18.5 at 76 MPH. I had one of these cars and I would guess the 0-60 at around 8-9 seconds. The only differences being my car had 130K and radial tires whereas they had a new car with polyglass or whatever they came with. Maybe they wasted 3 seconds spinning the tires :Do No:
