Finally got around to swapping in my jeep steering box. Might have been easier to just get one from Hector but once I
started there was no stopping. For those that dont know, a PS box from a 93-98 jeep grand cherokee will bolt into an
A body. You have to use a rag joint from a 83 chevy truck to get the shaft to align. Additionally, the hose connections
on our cars are standard threads where the jeep takes metric. There are fittings available from what I've heard that
allow you to use your old hoses and adpt to the new box. I opted for new hoses and used AN fittings. I can make my own
hoses this way and never have to worry about them again.
I'll try and get some pics up but the difference is amazing.
Going from the numb takes forever to turn 72 turns of the steering wheel before it flinches to this one is amazing.
It actually gives some feedback now and is right at 3 turns lock to lock, just a hair under maybe.
I'll try to upload some pics later. Definatley a worthwhile mod.

    looking forward to pictures.

Didn't know that but sounds very interesting.

Those jeeps were very common here in switzerland so there are a lot of boxes available from junkyards.

they are the same specs as what I sell 12.7.1 but like he mentioned you need a special rag joint and metric hose fittings. What was the total cost all said and done?

Hector, I have just over $200 in it not including replacing my PS pump to the newer style. Something that probably needed done anyways. AN fittings aint cheap!

I'd have to check the dimensions of the double D shafts and the steering column size but on my cucv blazer a common upgrade is a jeep steering shaft because it uses the U joint style instead of the rag joint. One one shaft I swapped just the steering box side as the double D shafts are exactly the same size. The older blazer steering columns use a different size spline than mine (84 build year).

apparently they have the same. I know people used to run f body ones but you lost all kinds of turning radius.

I had some in progress pics but cant find them on my phone. Here are some completed pics though. Last pic is the original pump. It still works but I went to the newer style in the 3rd pic. Had to modify the bracket quite a bit but it works.

Anyone know if the Jeep box works in the '68-'69 Rivieras?

If they are the same box as the A bodies I'd say yes. The jeep box bolts right to the frame. Re use the stock pitman arm as I did.

Too small for the Riv. It takes the larger "808" box. Get a '71-77 full size GM car box. They are a faster ratio & other than swapping pitman arms they are a DIRECT bolt-in. When you go to check one out if it turns 3 1/4 or less turns it will be a faster ratio box. In the car will be less.

I purchased the hoses and fittings at a local speed shop. They are AN fittings and the hose is high pressure stuff that runs $7 a foot. I have a receipt somewhere with all the part numbers I'll see if I can dig up.

When I did mine I used teflon/stainless hose with steel ends from summit. Only thing bad I can say about that hose is it is not as flexible as other hose. Also use it fro fuel line. It is easy to work with, much easier than some AN style hose.

Don't forget that you need to use the high pressure orifice from the Jeep power steering pump.
