OMG! I bought a new Q-jet Jet performance Stage 2 to be exact to end my problems with the original q-jet from hell. This Carb is for my Buick 455, Now I already installed it and wired the electric choke correctly. It started up, now I don't have a Tach but it sound like it's idling way too high. I then adjusted the Fast Idle screw and it helped, now it idles a bit lower but once I shift into drive, it shuts off. If I leave the Fast idle how it was, the car idles high and once i shift into drive, it shuts down also. Nextime, I tried lightly taping the gas and the car almost ended up in my house, I was lucky I had my foot on the brake just in case. Well This car is supposed to be for chevy's, Ok, I had to modify the fuel line, no prob, not I checked clearance and I had to buy new bolts and spacers to make the q-jet work with my stock Intake Manifold. I did notice that the curb idle screw isn't event touching the linkage thingy, and it still seems to act like it is. Should I return it? Anyone one else have the same setup? Which vac ports are needed? Which port do I connect to that goes to the manifold, this q-jet seems to have 2. omg help me before it kills me! I AM GOING CRAZY, I might just return it and get $384:dollar: back and re - re- rebuild my original q-jet for the 5th time. Thanks!:Comp: I will add more pics!
I definely think you have the vac. advance in the wrong spot. It should go on the bottom left. bittom left is ported vac., you need ported for the advance
Did the carb some with any paperwork with default or entry level adjustments?? Juet wondering. ElectraJim
Everything seems to be fine, nothing seems to stick, o No: I had in the back of my mind that I had a leak somewhere. :idea2:What I suspected was the spacers on the manifold between carb. I no one had one cheap locally so i improvised with the ones I had, Do you guys think it might be leaking through there? I had to buy new bolts because the carb linkage system would hit the intake manifold. Here are the other pics Thanks
Yeah, that bif port on the front has to be plugged, my Jet came with it plugged. I made a mistake, vac advance goes top left vac. port. If you pm me your e-mail I'll send you some pics of my Jet stage 2 set-up on my 350. Jay
hey jay : i would not mind a couple q-jet/350 pics also if you could swing that easily . have not started mine up quite yet but may be good reference for me "in case" later on . has that "jet" been ok for ya ? e-mail address below . thanks . del
You really need to be careful with stacking gaskets like that under the baseplate. All too often they will compress at all four corners when you run the bolts down, but not as much in the center...that flexure can result in breaking off one or more corners of the plate. Devon
did you purchase the carb directly from "jet" or from a supplier like summit racing etc ? summit ( or whomever ) may sell you a more generic one they stock but if you call "jet" direct they may ask a few questions about your setup and recommend a more specific carb . i would say dbl check and fix all possible vac leak areas etc and if still acting up then give them a call / e-mail . that and info from here should hopefully fix it for ya' maybe . del ***** hey jay - got the pics , thanks ! *****
just a couple comments sorry it so long since post. isn't the big open fitting the bowl vent to the charcoal canister. make a spacer out of a pine board. it will provide clearence and can be used to improve performance. the pontiac expert said he got better increase in E.T. from a spacer than 15 cam changes. if you have a friend with a pontiac ask to see his jim hand book it has a good section on spacers
