While working on fixing the power bucket seat in my '66 GS, the same old question entered my mind again. Is this the original upholstery installed at the factory? Is there any way to tell for sure? I can post a picture of the underside of the seat if that would help. With all the experts & informed enthusiasts on here, surely someone has some clues to look for. I've had the GS for 26 years and basically there's only a small amount of surface rust in a few areas such as the seat tracks, but plenty of dust, etc. Hope everyone is staying well & safe. I'm finding some time to actually work on a few car related projects, such as the power seat. Have a new relay ordered so hope that works... Steve
If you take really close detailed pictures of the front of the seats I could tell you. If you have the deluxe interior, show a close-up of the plastic beading with the double stitches. Duane
When i redid the covers on my 67 gs340 seats i found this printed on underside of them. And i know for a fact they were original covers.
Thanks guys. I'll get some detailed pics and post them in the next few days. Rain is expected this a.m., plus getting entire AC & furnace replaced in house today... Steve
Yup.... the thin trim strips may tell you if they are repo's. The repo's were smooth between the beads, the originals had a grain texture. I had the seats in my blue GS done in the early 80's before repo's were avail. The trim shop was able to reuse the original strips. They did a fantastic job on them, almost fooled Duane!
Walt, that was the key to the question! Just went & checked, mine are smooth between the beads so they are reproductions. No big deal as I was always curious (for 26 years). No need for additional pics. Now when I can figure out how to test the 6 prong relay to rule it out, or wait for the new one to arrive. Still could be the gear solenoids... Thanks for the help guys!
