hey my kickdown gear is not working so is there a way you can test the switch to see if it is not broken there?

also is it hard to change a kickdown seloidnoid? or should i take it to a shop and have them do it?

and this is in my 64 rivi with a 400 AT

The switch at the gas pedal is easy to test. Just put an ohmeter across the contacts and close the switch to see if it is working. Then with the ignition on, test for 12 volts on one side of the plug that goes into the gas pedal switch. If you have 12 volts there, check for 12 volts at the transmission connection(have someone push the gas pedal switch) You can apply 12 volts right from the + side of the battery(with a length of wire) to the transmission connector. If the downshift solenoid is working, you will hear it click.(listen closely near the pan) Replacing it is not hard, but you have to drop the pan. It is 2 bolts near one corner of the valvebody.

There is no gas pedal switch. It is mounted next to the carb on the linkage side of the manifold. The switch is also adjustible. I would unplug the switch and put an ohm meter across it and see if the switch is good. Then look for the 12v. Could be a badly adjusted switch, bad switch, poor connections or something in the trans.
