I took the GS out for the first time this year today. Man did I miss driving it. Anyway I pulled up to a light behind a guy who thought he had a hot mustang and his girlfriend was in the car. For a while I couldn't get in the other lane to pass him but when I started to he romped on the gas and so did I. I just pulling away from him no problem. Then we hit a red light. My father (who was with me) said don't let him get in front of you. Well I let him take off first and then I romped on the gas. I was about 4 car lengths ahead of him in no time. At the next light my father and I were laughing and his girlfriend looked like she was in awe of the car. The driver wouldn't even look at us. My father and I drove home with great big smiles on our faces.

BUUUUUUUURP! Oh Yeah, those Mustangs sure do go down easy, and are a staple of any Big Block BUICK Balanced Diet! If I had nickle for every 5.0 that tangled with me...let's just say the vert would be painted by now.

Its funny that you say this. Just yesterday, Greg and I were out driving by houses for sale that we might be interested in and saw a Mustang project in a driveway. About that time I let out a good deep belch that could have been measured on a ricter scale. Greg asks me if I just belched and I said "Yes" to which he said "I thought you were trying to mimick the sound of a Mustang"

Brian, Awesum kill, not once, but twice. Thats a great way to stsrt the summer cruising season.:TU: :TU:

nice kill but I'm curious about just what kind of stang it was? They vary in speed a ton. I'm hoping it was a 2007 Cobra. That would be cool.

    Andy,

    It wasn't a 2007. It was a late 90's 5.0 or 4.6, I'm not sure which.

I recently sacked a track built 2006 on the street. 3 Black Muscrat, from stop light past him. The whole family was in the vert waiting for a light. Light turned, we rounded the left hand turn, 2 lane corner behind him, his eye ball in the rear view, the uplift from the scrat, and the fuel contraptions under his car said let's go, so, when light turned and we rounded the wide corner, I left it in first slammed second and left my foot in it......the road merged into one lane....we left him frustrated back there romping around...wife was PISSED! "Don't do that with us in the car!!!
    BUUUUURP, another mustang.

The wife still thinks he did not try, we know better.....My guess is he had nitrous set up.....but a street car is a street car, and a driver....

    FAAAAARRRRRRT......

All mustang owners share the same popular misconception: that their car is fast. Mustangs are good bang for the buck, they have a wicked short wheelbase and are light...they FEEL real fast if you are driving it, but it's all a trick of the light. Iused to work at a large f***dealer, and as usual, you got the guys that work their with their little baby mustangs always bragging about their peanut cars and how they won this race and that race. They may be marginally fast off the line if they have 501 gears, but thats about it. Ihave raced them off the line and on the highway and blown every one of them away. Some can keep up to about 50 or 60 if I let the tires spin, but when the tires finally grab, they are in the rearview waving their arms about no fair you got highway gears. So now I need to give them a handicap? I guess putting on my street slicks so my tires wont spin off the line would be cheating, eh?

The late 80s and 90s Mustangs weren't all that fast... even with some engine work.

I did get smoked by a new one a few years ago... starting at 60 he just walked away from me. Must have been a Cobra, because the other new ones couldn't just leave me (and my 'Lark doesn't run well).

    Keep up the good work.

There are a lot of Mustang owners to "edjamacate". The problem is not one of them will line up next to me at test and tune and some of the Cobras/Saleens are in the mid 12's. There is even a fairly quick (13.0's) SVT Lightning Pickup but he always waits for me to get in line and then he lines up behind me. The same thing with the Viper owner. The only guys/girls who want a piece of the Turbo at the track are the ricers and the guys deep in the 10's or faster. I have not had a close race at the track in two years. I'm either ten car lengths ahead or behind. There is one of those new Ford GT's in town but I ain't skeered. I've seen a Maclaren M-1 here, he could be trouble. A well hooked up Z-06 with a good driver could be trouble on the street too but I've only seen two of those around here. The problem is with those supercars we will be door to door and going way too fast for the street.

So I either have to get faster or slower. My buddy who used to be a close race put a new motor and blower in his 66 Chevelle and now goes 10.30's @ 132 so he's no fun anymore.

I was disapointed when I went to the track also, with the 67 cause I was one of the few puople not running slicks. It was a test and tune and I was the fastest in the group. and people thought my 2.0 60 foot was fast.. lol

There are a lot of Mustang's around my neck of the woods, in case you haven't noticed my location, and I see a lot of Cobra SVT's. I know the power they bring so I don't play with them much. My Buick isn't built to race, yet, but my Charger is and I'm still leary. If they really egged me on at a light, I would go, but other than that, it wouldn't be much of a challenge for them from a roll.

The fox body stang's are the trendy thing to build around me and a new one comes out of the woods nearly every weekend. I can't blame them since they are so cheap to build fast with parts available at your local grocery store, it seems.

Granted, a lot of them just stick some loud flowmasters on them and A-pillar gauges to try and fool you.

    Commence with the killing fella's

About Fox Body Mustangs. Love all the stories but in general I think Fox's are slow, slow, slow. I think the engines in most of those cars, especially through the 80's were only rated at about 180 horsepower or less. Dont know much about them cause I think they are ugly but I can beat some of them in my 2001 V6 Mustang. Even modified ones dont beat me by much at the track. My car only has CAI and dual exhaust mods. BTW I do own a 68 Skylark which HOPEFULLY will be road worthy soon. Waiting for heads to be done at the shop. Then I'll go out and find some Foxes for lunch. Steve

Most of the mustang's here are well built and potent 302's in most cases. Like I said, cheap parts, easy builds, light weight. And yes, they are ugly blah!

Saw a bunch of 84-86 Mustangs over the weekend, new never brfore seen. they're taking over.

nice kill! everybody has those damn mustangs and they're all overrated. its good to take them to school. about the only mustangs that i respect that i see on the road is those cobra bastards. one was behind me in the staging lanes at the track, in the street tire class, and i didn't watch him obviously but my buddy said he ran 12 something. he had his hood popped, i saw the 4.6 or 4.8 whatever with the supercharger, don't know if he was stock, but i was still pretty impressed.

one thing not to forget though is the fact that i have paid $5000 for my 13-14 second car. give me the budget that guy had to buy that cobra mustang and i sure as hell will do better than 12's.:Brow:
