Hey guys. When Im not working on the Buicks I work on alot of other crap, whether it be antique pens and pencils, lighters, collecting old petroliana, carbide lamps, magazines, electrostatics and free energy stuff, you name it.

I like to collect knives too, and have a couple nice ones that I swap out all the time. My most used and abused knife is my Benchmade 705S with the axis lock and G10 handles. It is almost bulletproof. The lock is very nice and instead of getting looser as it wears it wears into itself and only locks harder and smoother.

I got bored with the G10 handles that it comes with, which are composed of a compressed fiberglass material that is ultra durable. The outer parts of the handle which are referred to as scales, are easily removable and i wanted to replace them with something a little more classy for certain occasions.

I decided to build them out of wood. I went to the Muir woods in California for vacation and picked up one of those live Redwood burl cuttings that you place in water and watch the shoots grow. The tree it came from was over 1500 years old, When it died i let it dry out, and now it was hard enough to do something with.

I first cut the chunk out with a jigsaw, then cut that into two pieces and used a knife to get it flat and give it the shape, then a dremel to drill the holes and sandpaper to finish it off with. This was my first try at making handles for anything out of wood and i think it looks pretty good so I felt like showing yall all my hard work from the past day or so.

If anyone wants to send their benchmade to me I want to make some patterns for other knives with the same scale handle layout. Start up the Benchmade aftermarket :beer

I like to work with wood myself, making a cabinet now, would like to get into building a few wooden trucks, and then who knows. :Do No: Wood is great to work with, but i have to start a restoration on a band saw I have.
