He's saying the seat backs, not the back seats. Legendary will also sell you material by the yard( not cheap) I did this so my armrest could be recovered. In my case for '68 was Frost White or Pure White.

I knew it was a dumb question! Lesson learned, don't do anything on Friday nights after a long work week. That makes sense and will likely be the plan. Do you happen to know if Legendary sells the various vinyl colors they sell in spray? If not , hopefully SEM has a close match to the 72 off white color. Thanks for clarifying and avoding the appropriate "dummy" insert. Gotta love this forum - very tolerant of us new guys. Steve

yes use the SEM on the plastics, and use the appropriate adhesion per their instructions. I believe the Super White is too white for your application. Have to look at their chart for the appropriate one. Here are some before and after I am working on. great stuff.

I suspect you will find that the Super White is going to work for your '72. I am with Duane...the '72 interior color is a ways away from being a bright, pure white (ie "refrigerator white"). My '72 is definitely not a pure white.

So, despite its name, the SEM Super White isn't a bright white.

I am also redoing a set of the '70 Long Armrest Bases and Pads right now and the new vinyl for the pads came from Legendary....it's a Pearl White interior car. The '70 Pearl White vinyl looks a lot brighter and whiter than the non-pearl white interior vinyl in my '72.

Also...Don...I am pretty sure your vinyl from Legendary wasn't an real bright white either. I should have kept a sample.

    Steve,

Yes, I ordered the 230G color code for my car. It states the 230G on the order form I received with the seat backs about 10 days ago. I had placed my order between Xmas and New Years when they had a 20% off sale in effect. The seat side panels are on back order.

    Thanks,

    Larry

Larry, thanks. That will be perfect. Patton, I'll start with the super white SEM and , if needed, explore further. Really appreciate the info provided in this thread . I did have an expectation that the white would be a bit brighter than the 72 off white actually turns out to be, so I learned something . It will actually look great with the Cortez, I think. Also, I ended up ordering armrests and pads from NPD in white and they are a perfect match to the original 72 white headrests I have - perfect. Thanks very much to all . Steve

I always thought my '68 was an "off-white" and not pure white :Do No: I guess it depends on the definition of "white":Dou:

    Mike,
If you put the 68 and 72 white colors next to each other the only way to describe them is 68's are pure white and 72's are off white.

Trust me, I manufactured muscle car interiors for 20 years, and was the first company to reproduce any of the Buick GS interiors.

I am just conditioned to looking at my original 42 year old white interior so I am sure it is more "off-white" than it originally was

Yeah, dl7265 told me to use SEM's Super White on my 68 interior. My interior is definitely white, but with a little bit of an off white tint. I thought "super white" sounded too bright, but I got some and it worked great! Thanks for the heads up on that dl7265! :TU: It covered great and seems like a pretty durable finish. I was using it on the hard plastic armrest bases so I used an adhesion promoter first.

I'm sure next to an off-white the 68 interior is a lot whiter, but if you put the 68 interior next to a stark white piece of computer paper it would not be as bright. At least that's my observation of my original interior that is in great shape. Everything's relative.

Did you use spray cans or an air gun?

Agree---Personally, I am glad GM chose these slightly "off white" and pearl variations for our cars. A bright pure white is just TOO MUCH for these cars IMO.

I received the seat covers today and as stated they are slightly off white. Attached are pictures of them and a couple of pictures of the covers that are in the car today. The rear seats are original GM covers. The fronts have been worked on slightly over the years. Ie, new inserts, etc.

    Steve, hope this helps.

My 1972 GS has a #135 interior. I ordered front and rear seat covers in Dec from Legendary. My colour is actually an off white, a bit of a cream white. It seems the same shade as the old seat covers..matches just fine. One of the Ottawa Buick Boys has a 70' GS with fresh seat covers..very white!! I am sure the 70 and 72 have different shades of white. PM me if I can help. Later,Tony.

Larry. Those covers seem more white than mine (as far as my 49 YO eyes can tell!!!)..I am sure that`s the difference with a 70 and 72 with #135.
    Later,Tony.

Spray cans. The color match is pretty good, but it's a tiny bit more gray than the original. It's pretty good for smaller parts or panels but not an exact match. My plastic armrest bases sure look a lot better than they did though. They were pretty yellowed with age.

Larry, thanks for the photos. They do look "whiter" than I expected, but I think cameras have a tough time on reproducing white tones. In any case, I recieved my replacemnt armrests and they are a perfect match to the used , but nice , 72 white headrests I have. I then recieved yesterday the front and rear seat covers. Nice . It's definitely an off white color, but looks great and is the best match I've seen to the headrests that I know are right. In any case, I am pleased with Legendary and the service was great to get things squared away. Anxious to see the door panels and to get the interior redone. Thanks, Steve
