Lifter info

    Stolen from the Pontiac board:

    "NEW NEWS ON LIFTERS! I sent an email to Crower asking them if they manufactured their own lifters or did they get them from Fed-Mogul like everyone else, since I didn't see Crower mentioned in any of these posts. Brian Crower responded that they source their lifters from Hylift. I did a google search on Hylift and found out that Hylift was Hylift-Johnson, the lifter company that went bankrupt. In August 2004, Topline bought the Hylift-Johnson OE Lifter tooling etc and are again manufacturing these lifters under the name Topline Hylift-Johnson through a "select group". I just ordered a set from Crower. Price is almost the same as Summit for Crower Lifters. I ordered directly from Crower, PN 66056-16, just in case Summit had "old" stock Crower lifters that may have come from Fed Mogul, don't know sure but didn't want to take the chance. BTW, the Crower Lifters are about double the price of various Fed Mogul 951s. I will return the Sealed Power HT-951s to Summit that I bought earlier. Jim"

    When I went to a milder cam in my 462" BBB, I ordered a Crower cam and was going to order the Crower lifters.
    The guy at P.A.W. informed me there were only three mfg. of lifters in the U.S. at the time and why not give the P.A.W. Super Stock lifters a try.
    Seems like the price was close to half.

    I ordered the SS lifters and the Crower cam and when they arrived I compared the SS lifters to the Crower lifters from the more radical Crower cam.
    They were the same lifters from what I could determine.
    Casting marks internal were the same, snap ring styles the same etc.

    So far the cam and lifters - in the car for the last 5 years have done well with no apparent problems after about 25,000 miles.

    Fwiw - I believe the late Caddy's use the same lifters.

    My lifters are always bleeding down after sitting for only 1/2 hour or so. What is the part number or how can we contact them to order a set?

    Hi, I was surfing around and that part number listed above, #66056-16, comes back as Pontiac lifters. Are Pontiac lifters the same as our??

    The post was stolen from a Pontiac board, so it makes sense that the part number is for a Pontiac.......

    So then we shouldn't use that number when we call to order some new lifters, huh.

    For a whopping $2 savings, summit has them for $97.

    The 215-300-340 &`68-69 350 as well as the 400-430 lifter is different from the 455 lifter. Last I knew the early lifter was out of production, but there is a fair amount of supply.

    You have to be careful, Federal Mogul uses the same part number for the late style Johnson lifter and the limited production GM(Delphi) lifter. TA was able to accquire quite a bit of the GM spec lifter and last I knew they were more reasonably priced than the prices mentioned on this thread.

    If you go to Summit's site and use that part # it gives you the same lifter number for all buick engines V6 and V8 including the 455. I though that they were different also. :Do No:

    `69 and earlier Buick engines did not oil through the pushrods, where as `70 and later, thus all 455's, did. The dimensions are the same between the two, but the earlier lifter's cup has a different radius for the pushrod and no oil provision.

    Many non-Buick parts places don't recognize/acknowledge the difference.
