Hello all. I was looking around the local recycler and there was an ad for a 1973 regal-$250. I clicked for more info, and it said it had a 455. It was in Monrovia, CA (the town right next to Pasadena, CA). I drove 50 miles to look at it today. The woman was the original owner, and it has 59,435 miles on it. Options are; 455/4 barrel, TH400, tilt, A/C, and AM radio. It still has the factory radio and smog pump on it. It has been sitting for 4 years. She said it had trouble starting 4 years ago, so she changed the battery, it worked fine, and then would not start the next morning. So it sat for 4 years. It would be fine, except for the horrible job someone did to fix the thrashed vinyl top, and the trunk was all wet inside (it has been raining here in So-Cal.-a rare occurence). At first, I thought what a great part car for my 73 Century GS, but after seeing it, I have to keep it as a second car for now, it is too nice to tear up. I will post photos as soon as the wife clears the card on the digital camera. She is really pist at what she found in the drive way when she got home. Still had to do it. Thought I would share a neat Buick deal.
Regal 455 $250 I know that scenario all too well:laugh: ------"NOT ANOTHER BUICK"ou: + "HOW MANY CARS DO YOU NEED?"o No: ----- but what a neat Buick deal you got, congratulations!:TU:
Good find JM ! (hope that's your nameo No: ) The best deals are often found in the local recycler papers. I love getting petrol in the States and grabbing a copy of a local paper. Even met the most wonderful (and often very strange) people through the cars-for-sale ads. Please post a few photos of that 455 Century Regal on this board :TU:
Yep, know that feeling well...the night I brought home the Centurion convert. I pulled into the garage (top down, of course), beeped the horn and waited for her. She opened the door and asked what the HE** was that! I explained that '72 was my favorite year of big Buicks, that it had a 455, all original, etc. She replied with that we needed to work on the house BEFORE I bought another car...I kept talking up the car, etc. She responded with that she wanted an enclosed patio, heated and air conditioned with a ceiling fan. NOW!!! I called the remodeler the next morning. ou: Most expensive 72 Centurion convertible known to man....including the patio costs.
Fix the vinyl top & trunk leak, then give it to your wife      :TU: :TU: :TU: Beth
Cool Find !! cant wait to see the pics too This one I still laugh at - I bought a SnowBlower and it wouldn't fit in the back of the Wagon so I rented the F250HD truck from Lowes to bring it home. While its in the driveway and I'm up on the back deck unpacking the snowblower My wife pulls in the driveway.....Looks at me....and STORMS off into the house. I finish unpacking and getting the blower off the deck and come inside.....was met with a blast of steam coming off of her Im all excited about the screaming deal I got on the blower and say "Come outside and look at the great deal i got...." Her response ?? "You've got 7 Cars !!! What do you possibly need that BIG TRUCK for ?!?!?!?!?" I almost fell over laughing......it took a good 2 minutes to convince her it was a rental :spank: :Smarty: :spank:
When I bought my 71 GS455 (now the race car), I bought it right before Christmas (1991?) without telling "the boss (former)" ....drove it right up to the front door (over the lawn) to show her. She wasn't happy! I wonder why? Divorced now with twice as many cars as I did then....hehe. Bruce
John, I got a call from Claudia, your personal stuffs' in the driveway! LOL Congrats big John, I'll see it tomorrow afternoon or evening, when you go to pick up your clothes laying out in the driveway.
i'm glad to see "under house arrest" is still working in our marriages..hehehehehe been there, done that john
The car in my avatar came from a garage sale. Went to look at a free skyhawk (good for parts for my skyhawk turbo T). Come back and told the wife I got a another car...well, actually 6 and a motorcycle. Knew I was dead. Her comment? Well, at least it's not as ugly as I thought would be...
I love that rented truck story, so classic. I got involved in working on the house once, never again, I worked all day Sat and Sun for 3 weekends, I hated every second of it. Way better to have a Centurion and pay for house stuff, rather than, God forbid, have no Centurion and work on stuff that is not greasy, like wood or drywall. I do not let any of the wife's "house work" tools in my tool box, they are all in the corner of the garage. Friggin Len (my lone Buick Buddy here in Santa Clarita, CA), if Claudia kicks me out, I am moving in with you. Not the shop, not the camper, not the car trailer, not hte boat, and not the 5th wheel. Your living room will be mine. I will drink all your beer, eat all your food, and I will practice wonderfully poor hygiene. Started the car & did a little cruising tonight, borrowed the battery from the GS. I put the car in gear and nothing happened, put in 3 quarts of ATF & cruised down the street. Seems to run fine, it is so damn quiet compared to the GS, like a total Grandma car. Then parked it, put the battery back in the orange beast, and returned to house arrest. Appearently I am on some sort of list. Growing up I was always on my Mom's list. But, like most guys, as soon as I am free from "the list," I have some sick desire to get back on the list. There is peace on the list. Maybe tomorrow, Len and his digital camera can do some posting of photos. If he does not, I will tell Claudia that Len told me: "Hey john, you have to get that car, if not for yourself, your wife."
