Just wondering if anyone knows if a locking air cleaner nut exists anywhere and if they do does anybody know where to buy them??? I would really like to be able to lock down my star wars air cleaner once it's on to stop any lowlife from boosting it while my car is parked somewhere. Any help would be appreciated thank you in advance!!
Allen head or torx bolt should work, have a bushing machined to accept the the bolt head and it would look stock at first glance
That may be a good option hugger!! Ha ha Alan that seems like the ultimate solution then I don't have to worry about nothing at all!! Thanks guys Merry Christmas!!
I have a 67 GS 400 with the SW breather. I had noticed there was like a groove in the stem near the top. Somewhere...I don't remember exactly where...I saw a diagram of the SW deal and it looked like there was maybe a rubber or some kind of washer on the top, and an E clip or round retainer under in that groove. It looked like the nut stayed with the cleaner. I have an original 1967 Assembly manual that's like 4" thick, it may have been in there. I've never seen anybody here mention it. I would think somebody like Gary might know better than I.
Well schurkey the hood being shut is the easy part the fact that any old somebody can walk over and pop it open with the latch on these old-school cars being accessible in the grill is the hard part. I'm just looking for some real solutions not smart a** remarks and a-hole troll comments. Merry Christmas to all!!
Excellent idea hugger!! I'm not looking for a "stock" appearance just a practical one where I can leave my car at work all day and come back to drive it home and my air cleaner will still be there.
Do it yourself manual hood release/ lock from inside the passenger compartment using a push/pull "choke" type cable and pin to the latching mechanism. You pull the knob to pull the pin and then the hood release will operate. Push the knob and the pun prevents the hood latch from moving. Then the door lock and only you knowing the cable exists is your security.
Using the vandal proof allen head or torx bolt as Hugger had illustrated is the way to go, I have them on a few items.....
Relax RIVI, Schurkey was just reiterating Alan's thoughts on having a lock for the hood. Lots use a steel cable and lock to prevent theft. Schurkey is far from a troll. Unfortunately it's come to this even on cruise nights where you can't leave your car unattended. Merry Christmas.
For the record, my El Camino has a chain bolted to the hood latch, which hangs down long enough so that I can wrap around the metal grille support and padlock. There was a time that this was semi-common at least among my friends and acquaintances. I had the impression that this was popular "all over". The only downside to this is an engine fire will be difficult to extinguish because of the extra time involved in unlocking the padlock. There are times I'm concerned about this...and other times I just lock the padlock and drive away.
I like the in the passenger compartment hood release conversion as the best anti-theft deterrent, just lock the door to keep people honest. It would also help if the release is hidden as well, perhaps routed so it can be locked in the glove box? OR a more modern spin to make it unlock with a key fob in case of a fire for a fast opening?
Hey guys thanks for all the tips and suggestions I wasn't trying to fly off the handle and insult anyone I just see/read too much of the negative unneeded comments that end up consuming a person's post for help. No hard feelings anyone and if I did offend anyone I'm sorry.
