My tranny finally kicked the bucket in my 76 riv and i need to know if i need a long or short shaft 400 tranny for my car.
Crawl under the car and have a look. A short tail has a tailshaft around 6 inches long. A long tail has one closer to a foot long. It doesn't really matter what one you have when it comes to rebuilding the tranny. I believe the internal parts and exterior gaskets and seals are all the same.
