There's a near-twin of this car at a local show every year. Even the paint looks the same! I used to have a few pics, but I think I've deleted them.
It's a very sweet car. It has definitely earned the buick name. But what does the air ride suspension do for a car? I have heard of these before, but No-one has ever explained how the system works. All I know is that it is supposed to take bumps with ease(in other words, the system can take bumps in the road with no problem at all). But other than that, how do they work. It appears as though the suspension lowered the car. any info on this suspension system would help. Thanks
Oh, Oh, I have that one! except mine has different wheels. Sometimes i wish there was a machine that could make die cast cars real ones! LOL, It would be a lot cheaper.
To answer your question about the Air-Ride; The system operates with an air compressor (usually electrical) that pumps air into bladders that are installed instead of or in combination with springs. They have a storage tank to hold air volume and a valve to controll the amount of air going into the bladders. There is usually an adjustment feature to adjust the ride height and firmness. As for that Hot Wheels Riviera, Mattel's Distribution warehouse (which is right behind the one I deliver from) had a clearance sale and I managed to score about a dozen of them. If anyone wants one cheap drop me a PM.
Air ride.... One of my friends has a 67 Chevy show truck with a BBC in it. It runs 11's, and is VERY nice. It was in a magazine last year. Anyways... he has air-ride in it. It's the only vehicle I've ever rode in with air-ride installed. I was truly amazed at how nice it felt, and very impressed with the travel of the suspension. He is using a ladder bar type setup he made himself in the rear, and I think the front is pretty much stock except for maybe some dropped spindles or something. For shows and racing, he keeps it real low (like the Riv on eBay) but for loading it on and off the trailer he just pushes a button and whalla, he has an extra 6"-8" of ground clearance for getting on and off the trailer. He also pops it up a little when entering parking lots and driveways to make sure he clears any curbs or bumps. If I remember right, he can even lay a 2x4 under his frame rail, and actually pull the tires off the ground with the cylinders! Talk about easy tire changes. :eek2:  It's very practical for him, and he even has me considering it for my tubbed project. I'm not going to have much ground clearance in a few places, and air ride would be just the ticket! o No:
here's another similar one nice ride.. not real fond of the color though lol.. and he probably lives like 20 minutes from me heh... oh, btw, these were taken at the centennial
