I need a rear end for my brothers 67 firebird. a rear from the x-body (nova/apollo/ventura...) would fit. there is no particular rush, but I need one, willing to travel a reasonable distance to get, or pony up the shipping. Thanks, Joe :beer

    Just an idea:

Will the rear from a 75-79 Seville fit? Those have disc brakes from the factory and are leaft springs rear axles.

Actually, I think it might. I read in a Car Craft that they called some Caddy a glorified disco-nova. perhaps that is the model that they are talking about. thanks for the lead. the discs would be really slick. :beer

    Joe,
That is the car, 75-79 Seville, used an Olds engine, had a leaf spring rear and had rear disc brakes. I see them from time to time here in FL. Always wondered why the Nova/Phoenix/Apollo/Ventura guys did not get them.

    Jon,
The rear from the Skylark is for a coil spring rear. The 67-up Firebirds are leaf spring rears. Soooooo...your Skylark rear will not work.

Yeah I just did a little Internet Research and found that the seville is based on the X body platform. Turns out in certain years the only available engine was the olds deisel. :Dou: However, the "massive torque" of the olds deisel gave it the 8.5". I kinda thought that it would have the smaller 7.5", but I guess not.

Interestingly enough, there was quite a market for olds-deisel-powered cars up north. after the motor went many shops would swap in gas motors and re-sell them. most of the cars were southern, since the north cars were likely rotted out by the time the deisel went. which would explain why you see a lack of the sevilles. The words "southern car" and "new motor" will pretty much anything sell up hear. Thanks for the info, and I'll be sure to let you know if we can find one, and how it works. :beer
