65 Buick Speical Wagon (Sky-top) 28 Spline 29 1/8 or 1/4? (3 holes in lug plate) I believe also used on 64-65 Buick, Ols and Pontiac Bearing spun on axle Checked Memory Lane in the San Fernando Valley California no luck (would like to find a place in the LA area so I can match it up before buying) Lubed the hell out of it so I can drive around town under 35MPH (its my only set of wheels for a month) Wagon belonged to my late father who bought it brand new I may sell due to parts hard to find
rogerz, welcome to v8buick ! i'm fairly certain that you will find an axle for your car here, i dont think you will need to sell it for lack of an axle. i bet someone here will have one. the 65 wagons are cool, hang in there, i'm sure it will be found. henry
Thanks for the Info I am not having much luck in finding one in the Los Angeles area I remember a long time ago when my father had a 58 ols and he had a speicality rear end shop take one of his spun axles and machine a new sleave for the bearing and it worked great for a few years until the car was junked I am babying the axle bearing with plenty of grease in and outside the bearing once every 2 weeks and driving with no weight in the back at no more than 35mph and the axle isnt wearing any more I also remember a wild story of someone who could not find an axle for his 50 chevy truck and I saw this guy press a bunch of thick star washers along with the bearing to keep it from spining on the axle until he found a replacement He drove it like that for 3 years!!! and it held!!! I'm not the mechanic my father and uncle were but I have rebuilt a few engines and front and rear suspension And they were not afraid to try something bold as long as it was safe on the road
I am looking into that option, but would like to find a replacement for less than $200 if possible I have a 72 El Camino with a 307 and I can find a ton of parts for that at 1/2 the price! But the El Camino is thrashed looking and the Buick wagon is in much better shape I noticed the 307 looks like it would fit in the Wagon (although I hate the rear mount distributors)
Out in the axle racks, have a pair of nice axles of of a '64 442 rear. These are exact same length & have 3 holes in flange as do the early Skylark axles. Will remove sealed bearing & double ck that axle has no wear. We do this with all '64-69 GM sealed bearing axles, before installing a new bearing...saves customer getting a junk axle. As your sportswagon uses same diam & spline axle, these will work, just will need RW507AR bearing, then I can press on bearing, box, & ship. $80+ actual bearing price + UPS shipping. Roger
I tried for weeks to find anyplace that would resleave it and not one shop would I did find a brand new axle at a place called Unitrax in Anaheim close to my home for $120 I had a friend press on a new bearing I had and its done. Now I need to replace all 8 bushings and get my other GM car running and I might sell the old wagon before the end of the year (just because its hard and expensive to find parts for the 65 vs my 72)
