V8Buick Members, I just introduced myself in the Wet Behind the Ears section, and as a new guy, Im in the market for my first classic Buick. I am looking for an entry-level car that is currently drivable, as Im looking to enjoy the car this season as a main driver. I have a line on a 70 2-door post sedan that I am interested in. It fits my needs pretty well, but I figured Id start a thread here in case any of you know of other options that would be a better fit. Below are my requirements, preferences, and the things Im indifferent about. If you have a car that fits, or know of one that does, please contact me. I am in the market and ready to transact! Budget: $9,000.00 USD Location: the closer to Milwaukee/Chicago the better, however I am willing to buy a 1-way ticket to the right car. This would require that I can drive it back to Milwaukee/Chicago, as I do not have a trailer/tow rig. Requirements: As stated, I am looking for a driver that will last me through this fall without major mechanical work. I am not opposed to minor mechanical work, routine maintenance, or the need to tune the car up to have it running perfectly. Again, it just needs to be a driver. Body and Frame condition: this is my main concern above all else. I do not have the funds for professional body work, nor the resources to do it myself. The cleanest, most rust-free car out there will win over all other preferences. Year: 1970-1972 Hard-top coupe or 2-door post sedan. V8 car would actually prefer a 350 to the 455 due to my desired use, but this is more of a preference and Ill look at both. Preferences: Would love a 4-speed car, but I know that the odds are against me here and I certainly would still enjoy a car with a slush box. Non-vinyl top. I think they look clean in some cases, but prefer the look without. I would consider it with the right color combo. I am also worried about the inherent rust issues that cars with them tend to have. Posi rear end - low on the list more of a nice-to-have May be slightly picky on paint color, but again this really comes down to how clean the body is first & foremost. Indifferent Items: Not too worried about originality, matching #s or being factory-correct. Period correct would be a plus though. Interior Condition/Completeness: If I can get in it, drive it comfortably and the gauges work, Im not too worried about the rest. Headliner, carpeting, seat covers/condition, etc. are low on my list as they dont affect drivability and can be worked on over time. General finish of engine bay, frame and suspension components, etc.: Im fully expecting a unfinished car, and am able to refinish/restore components as necessary over time. These points may be too specific, and maybe even lofty as goals, but I figured it couldnt hurt to put it out there. Id encourage any leads you have, even if they differ slightly from the above. Main priority is body work and drivability. Thanks for reading, and I hope to be a V8 Buick owner very soon! Reachable here via PM, or at my personal email (m_schultz737 at yahoo.com) Best, Max
Did you see these? http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/cto/4464866443.html http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/cto/4425544447.html
Chris, Yes, thanks for the reply. I like the white one, but it looks like it has some rot on the rear quarters behind the rear wheel well. Haven't seen the green one. I'm going to email the seller. Could be an option.
Max, You are doing the right thing.....every car I have ever purchased, was all through word of mouth
That's what I'm aiming for: I've come to find that when looking for the older stuff, the real Gems are usually not on craigslist... The car you know I've looked at was nice, but it can't hurt to see what else is out there, right? Max
