Anyone out there have their original tinted LOF windshield from 70-71 Era? I am looking to have Pilkington classics etch the glass with correct logo but mine is long gone. I have all original glass other than windshield but they are different. I believe windshield(wind screen for any brits) said laminated. I just need what is correct. They charge about $385 to have these delivered here in Mass if anyone interested. They ship form Ohio so shipping may vary to you.

I'll look at my parts car and see if it is a LOF unit. What condition does the glass need to be in?

    it's a LOF unit and is still in the car. It reads from inside of car left to right, top to bottom;

    Shaded
    Soft-ray
    Safety LOF Plate
    AZ-1 (sic)
    Laminated
    Antenna
    DOT (????)

The AZ-1 is very light etching and small
there is something etched next to the DOT but I can't really read it. IIRC, that should be the mfg date of the glass.

Dave, are you familiar with the Research Report published by Camaro Research Group (available at their website)? A wealth of information regarding auto glass markings and some pictures (though I don't think you'll find the exact picture you're looking for). The judging manuals published by NCRS are also helpful.

Of course, a picture's worth a thousand words, so if someone can post a picture of their original windshield, that's best. Just make sure to verify the date code -- first to verify the windshield's originality, second because the safety standards and type of glass varied over the years, which means the markings varied.

I am pretty sure I have an original 71 windshield. I can take a look and post a few pics.

N36 Not sure if your is original. There would be a two letter date code and the AZ would be Sept, 1967 so I do not think that is it. Might be close to that style however. Al a picture would be great if you could get good detail with the macro function.

Brian. Thanks for that link. I will check it out. The Pilkington Classics site also shows a picture of what is probably correct but want to be sure. Thanks

I don't have it in front of me, so I can't remember:
Does Duane's date code book have any pictures of the windshield marking?

my 71 had a mid to late 70's replacement but I have a 1970 firebird which looks to have all its original glass. I will get better pics later this evening.

Dave, I spoke with the guys at Auto City Classics at Carlisle a few years ago....
Pilkington windshield was $99, date coded was +$80, and shipping was $100. Pick up at a show to save on shipping! Here's their website:

Wow, Walt alot cheaper. I guess Pilkington is jacking it up.

I stopped at the Auto City Classics space at Carlisle yesterday. $99 for the windshield (64-67), $80 for etching the logo, plus approx $120 shipping to Pa....$299 shipped or $179 for show pick-up.
70-72 windshields were a little more.
He did tell me the glass without logo comes from outside the USA....Mexico or Thailand. He prefers the Thailand glass. It still must meet DOT or whatever specs. With this news, I'm now concerned about quality of the various manufacturers.

Walt, I guess that is the world we live in now. I actually found an original in the junkyard this weekend with the correct markings. It had a 72 date code but very few can read them. It was juts a bit pitted for my taste however. igure as I managed to get it out by hand as the seal was so old and dried out.
