I've been in communication with this guy for a few weeks now, and I think he's just asking waaaaay too much for a '66 4-door Special. I'm interested in it for parts to put my '66 coupe back on the road, but I couldn't fathom paying $2k for it. He doesn't really know much about it (says the engine is a 330 or 331... ???), but not everyone is a car guy, so I can't hold that against him. What do y'all figure it's actually worth? I've got a number I'd CONSIDER paying, but... https://greenville.craigslist.org/pts/7162649084.html
His engine pics are a different car-Ford with a 351. What parts do you need? What do they add up to? What can you get for what’s left? (Probably not much). The sum is your target price. Patrick
$700 or $800 max & even at that don’t plan on ever making anything on a more door. Okay if you need a daily driver but no other real value
That's about what I was thinking. But that's what it's worth to ME as a parts car. I don't think he'd take the thousand or so I'd offer.
I'm looking for driver quality front and rear bumpers, a steering wheel, bench seat without the armrest, maybe a spare dash pad, solid floor pan and trunk pan, a pair of fenders (though I can probably save my fenders), and some odds and ends. For a grand it would be worth it for me to pick up the whole car and take parts as I need them, then dispose of the rest. Hell, I might even use the chassis if it's in better condition than mine, but not a necessity. I just wish he'd understand that his more-door ain't worth $2k, and that it'll turn into dirt-of-the-earth before he gets an offer that high.
Just wait... it isn't going to sell for 2k unless the original owner's grandson comes along or something like that. In a month or two it'll be down there at a grand. Give them your phone number and real top dollar offer, then wait for their phone call. Check in every few weeks to let them know you're serious at your price.
I told him I'm at around the $1200 mark (I know that's high for a base model more-door) but it's worth it to me to get my car going again in my lifetime. Probably about $300 more than it's worth. I'll be keeping in touch with him, and sooner or later he'll realize I'm not bullshitting him, and that a more-door just ain't gonna go for $2k. But I'll let him have his time with it, and maybe he'll come to a reasonable price.
Bench seat in a 4 door won’t flip forward like a two door. Frame probably a couple inches longer too?
Yeah, it's not a driver, and not worth restoring.... that makes it a parts car. Scrap prices are way down, so it's not gonna sell unless someone like you (or me) needs the parts. Offer what it's worth to you..... and wait. He'll come around eventually.
$1200 is what I was thinking. Maybe a little more than it's "worth" but you need the parts and there's probably at least that much there in parts.
Good point. Hadn't thought of that. You're absolutely correct about the seat. I believe the frame should be the same though. If I'm not mistaken the 2 and 4 doors have the same wheelbase.
