This week we lost Bill Mitrovitch, "Big Bill", I've known him since 1984 and he was a dedicated Buick man. Most don't know him since he hadn't had his car out in over 20 years. He had a beautiful dark green race car. Had it at the Nats a couple times, last time around 1992. He worked as an engineer for the railroad and finally retired in Dec. 2017 and was going to get the car out again, we talked of freshening it up or doing a 482 for it. Rest in Peace my friend, keep the trains rolling on time.
Yes its tough, he and about 8 other racers, incl. my son, would meet every Tuesday evening for wings and beer at local eateries for some bench racing, maybe a fireball or two also. Going to be hard looking at that empty seat.
Sorry to hear this news Gary, I met Bill around the time I met Sonny Seal on Aquilla rd. around 1985 I think, bought a few parts from Bill over the years, he will be missed, Gods speed Bill.
Sorry for your loss. The one thing I learned from my dad before he passed 2 years ago, was this..... if you plan on retiring someday make sure you start slowing down atleast 5 years before you retire. Take more days off, learn something new, start learning how to relax instead of just retiring cold turkey. Your body can't quit cold turkey, it's to use to its routine. He had seen many of his best friends pass within months of retirement.
Great advice, Sandy and I retired 14 years ago when we were able to afford it to enjoy life. Also saw too many friends pass within a couple years of retirement.
There has been so many men drop dead at retirement, one fellow I know refuses to retire. We had a supervisor die unexpectedly the weekend following his retirement. It can be shocking. The above advice is probably sound. We just had a big round of retirements here at work, and they are giving free mental health classes on how to cope. It seems like a strange thing to me. I've never been let go or laid off fortunately, but I could easily see where a man could struggle with that. I suppose for some, retirement is no different. The RR is very demanding work from what I understand.
"Skylark Willy" asked me to pass on His condolences. He still isn't 100% back together from the Garage incident, of last year, & then damaged the other wrist when the Snow Blower attacked a few weeks back.
Thank you, sorry to hear Bill isn't back to normal yet. Tell him get better, want to see him racing this year. gary
