Long shot I know, but here it goes...

I've scoured the internet, and I don't yet have a VIN (but I'm hoping my dad can find it) - for his GS 400. I'm hoping, due to its fairly unique configuration, that it still exists somewhere today.

    I'm looking for

'67 GS 400, it was Burgundy Mist, Ivory Soft Top, Automatic. I know there aren't a whole lot of automatic or is it (automatic convertibles) in the 700 units or so production range.

The car would have been traded in in the early 70's in either Colorado or New Mexico (I'll try to clarify that later).

What would you guys suggest I do to start tracking down this unicorn? I know just having a VIN would make this so much easier, but as of right now, I don't so I'm looking for some small miracles. My secret goal is to find it and buy it back someday to give back to him, so I figured I should get going on that now.

    Thanks so much,

    Fred

    Welcome ..

Even if you had the vin there is no way to search for it nationwide or even state wide for someone not in some type of law enforcement .. and even then casual searches are becoming strict (i.e. not related to a case)

If you have the means, is suggest either buying or building a car similar to what he had.

    .. your intentions are awesome

Thanks for the advice! That sucks re: VIN searches. I'm hoping to get some inside lines on doing research with the help of Buick or else some historians that might have production reports at-hand or daily car reports. I know how much of a long-shot it is, but that won't stop me. I just hope someone on here might even know this car exists or one similar to it based on the configuration. if not, the second idea is, of course, to create it. My family (like most families) has had their fair share of struggles especially during the past 10 years with life & finances, and this gives me something to look forward to doing. For me, this is the ultimate treasure hunt!

If you do get the VIN, post it here. Also post the original color, options etc. You just never know......
