Lumpy Cam Question

    Is TA's "Hemi Killer" TA298H cam streetable on 93 octane pump gas without detonation problems? Will it pull enough vacuum at idle to run the power brakes? Engine is a "new" 463 10 to 1. J Burek street ported Stg.1 heads, 1-7/8" headers, forged pistons, balanced, bla bla bla. If this guy is too much, was considering "dropping down" to the TA290-08HL or TA290-08. Was running a Postons 113A before the oil pump pick up tube came loose and melted the cam bearings,ugh!. Just looking for "a little more". Thanks in advance. Mike D.

    THE 08-hl is said to be the biggest cam for the street with no problem with vacumm, ect... The bigger the cam, the less problems you have with detonatoin due to the incressed overlap, creating bleed off of commpression at lower rpms, that why you need more commpression, the bigger the cam gets. i would say if your commpression is below 10 to 1 or below you should not have a problem on 93 octane.

    What about the T/A 413 or our Ultimate 500 cam? They would be a great progression from your previous 113 cam. The camshafts you are inquiring about love compression and timing. The 298H should hit the tires harder and recover from gear changes more rapidly. But neither attribute is beneficial if youre car is traction limited. The 286 and 290 style cams will make more peak HP. We recently replaced our ultimate 500 cam in one of our 500 HP builds with our newly designed 296 style cam. We were able to gain an additional 53 HP. It is a 541/563 lift with 239/247 duration on a 112 lobe center with a 1.6 rocker arm. The Ultimate 500 version made over 500 HP and our new 296 cam made over 550 HP in a very similar build up as yours. If in doubt choose the small cam. It will respond better, idle better, have a broader power band, and require less tuning. Its up to you which version better suits your needs and desires. Good luck.

    Sounds a lot like Harold's Ultradyne profiles, H15 and H12.
