We got this project at school where we should make an ad for an event. I thought I'd make one for a demo derby (sin), and make it like a poster. I aimed for a fifties kind of horror movie look. Like the avatar someone has "Aliens ate my Buick" type style. Is there something you'd like to change on it? I thought I'd ask since you're all car nuts... sorry about the size of the picture, just wanted to keep it all in there.

the top letters (demolition derby and the lettering under that) readability bothers me. i have to strain to read it (esp the smaler lettering). increase the size of both fonts....and do a diff color. yellow is a HORRIBLE color to try and read...and i think thats what bothers me the most. i know its just for a project (not sure for what class) but i have had a few design marketing classes...and the thing they drilled into our head was redability. my teachers always said that nobody is gonna take the time to strain and read your product, poster, ad, whatever, theyll just move on. they key here is to captivate your audience...get their attention and draw them in..and give them the info they need easily. dont make them strain to read it or search around. the bottom text (under the demo derby) needs to be moved a bit also....it gets lost in all the spots.

i do like the posterized cars and the tye-died'ish background...that DOES grab my attention...but maybe blow the cars up a bit bigger?

i know you think im raggin on your work (im not), just trying to give you some constructive criticizm. IMO i never got any better when my prof told me that everything i did was great...i got better because he pointed out things and i went back and did it better.

Class is in 20 mins, to late for changes now. I did make a version with the cars bigger, but it didn't improve it, it was like the cars were cut just before the numbers on the doors. Regarding the color of the letters, I agree it's not an optimal solution, just thought it looked cool with the red/yellow/blue combination. I think the "demo derby" should be less attentative than the mayhem, just to give you a clear hierarchy, but the "Vic Ville track" is not really a good solution for reading purposes. Thanks for the feedback, I'll get back tonight and let you know what the teacher thought. I can tell you now that he'll think it looks like a poster and not an ad, but I think what's the difference? If it gets your attention then it's successful.

I like the "Mayhem", it doesn't jump out at you, but is a nice "surprise" when looking at the poster.

Nice work :TU: Kinda looks like a good name for a band and their first album (cd these days---but with artwork like that the album would come back). I'm impressed. Patton

Glad you like it, if you want it on your wall, I could change the address and track name to what ever you want I guess, just to make it more personal.. I'll do some research on prices and get back to you..

Please find out what it will cost---Here's a couple other ideas now that you are in the poster business

1)Have an "inventory" of interchangeable car brands you could "plug into" the poster---for example a Buick GS and an Electra in the same exact position and shading, etc as the cars on the poster. You can then get on these sites and market these to "fit" each particular car brand (Don't get me wrong --I want one regardless--in its current form is just fine). Here's your ebay possibilities also.

    2) You could sell this poster to every demolition derby track in the world--just plug in their date, address and send 'em out. Problem is I don't know if these guys will spend the money to buy posters  You could establish this as the "standard" for demo derby postering.

    3) You really need to get this thing out (after copyrighting it) into circulation--maybe out in LA a band would pick up on the idea/logo/name. Sounds perfect for an up and coming garage band or a metal band. I could imagine seeing that poster hanging in a whole lot of clubs here in Austin.

Nice work-----let us know about reprints. Patton
