Well here we are in July and I STILL am not moved into my house yet. We decided to blast for a full basement and that sort of complicated things a bit scheduling wise. So in the meantime, my inlaws have also moved up from Jersey and we are all living in their house together until my house goes up. :Dou:

Now as you can imagine, a dinner or a short weekend with a mother in law would most times be ok, but, living with her is enough to make my aorta explode. It's hard to deal with someone who consatntly criticizes others, but is never wrong herself, or if she is wrong, she blames it on some other uncontrollable source. I think my wife is finally starting to realize that I am reaching the end of my sanity rope. Problem is we have weeks to go till we can actually get into our house. By then I may be in one of them funny jackets. :puzzled:

I hear you! I love my mother-in-law and she does many wonderful things for us, but sometimes too much contact can make you a bit crazy.

    A funny story...

When our first child was born, my M-I-L came to stay with us to help out. That was great. Well, I fell into the same role as you, Ken, being criticized for just about everything. I came home for lunch one day and she proceded to rip me up about the method I used to throw out some boxes. Apparently, I hadn't folded them exactly to her specs and so the outside garbage can was fuller than she anticipated it should be. I was gracious and nodded my head in subjugation, while secretly seething inside.

I then went up to the bedroom to see wife and new child, leaving her behind in the kitchen. I totally vented to my wife. "This is MY f%^&*ng house and I'll throw out MY F&*()ng garbage any f$%^&ng way I DAMN PLEASE!" It was at that point I noticed that the little red light was on the transmitter for the baby monitor! The receiving end was on the windowsill above the sink, where she was standing!

    :Dou: :Dou: :Dou:

Without hesitation I continued, "But I know she means well. And I know she's here to help us and I really appreciate that. I am thankful that she's able to be with her grandchild... blah, blah, blah"

She never said a word about it, but she never criticized me for anything else through the length of her stay!

Hang in there buddy! Grit your teeth and bear it. And when you do vent, make sure the room's not bugged!

Wow Ken, sounds like in the end it all worked out well for you though. Maybe I SHOULD let her overhear me. :)

With her though, it probably wouldn't matter.

The folded boxes thing was hilarious! It's so true, something you and I probably take for granted, such as being able to have the freedom to dispose of boxes in whatever fashion we choose, could actually be scrutinized so closely. They really should come up with a new species nomenclature for the "mother-in-law. They are too "unique" to be considered the same as the rest of us non mother-in-law types. :spank:

I've got a perfect solution to your frustration

Take it out by repeatedly slamming the right pedal of your GS all the way down to the floor and holding it there until the speedo reaches her age !!

Repeat as often as necessary until your blood presure resumes nominal readings.....then return home

My Mom is like that (Doesn't necessarily have to be a Mother in law...) and i learned a long time ago to be direct....but not hurtful.....such as

Mom - I love you and appreciate your advice - most of the time - but I think, at 41 years of age Im perfectly capable of accomplishing the destruction of some cardboard boxes (without the need of a committee decision as to how best to tackle this monumental endeavour.....if you want to make it stronger !!)

In actuality - she's prolly bored and has nothing else better to do

Hey !! Give HER the keys to the GS.....that'll get her out of the house for a while:Dou:

    Mark,

So far the only pics of the house I have are four separate modules on wheels! I do have plenty pics of the property though. Gotta get them to work here first though cause my computer isn't hooked up yet at home (home being my inlaws house :blast: ).

I'll post them as I am able.

Don't get me wrong, I am very greatful I have someplace to stay till my house is finished, free of charge! Up until now it was costing quite a bit of money to rent until we were able to move into the inlaws house once their winter rental had departed. But believe me, what I'm not earning in $$ I'm earning with gray hairs!
