Mallory Hyfire 6AL or MSD 6AL?

Jegs has the MSD 6AL on sale for $190, but Amazon has a comparable Mallory Hyfire 6AL for $184.
Does either have an advantage over the other? I'm leaning towards the Mallory as it has an adjustable rev limiter, where as the MSD uses plug-in modules. There is a board member here (somewhere) that works for Mallory and pointed out a few advantages.

It's going on a street car with a manual trans.
    Thanks!:TU:

For what it's worth, JW recommended I buy the Mallory over the MSD. I don't remember why though.

I used to work for Super Shops (in the late 80's to very early 90's) and sold Mallory Hyfire.

Why pay for the name when they both do the same thing.

Mallory being cheaper and easier with their design.

    Thanks!
I was sold on the MSD until I started researching the Mallory line.
Online reviews are pretty much a toss-up between MSD and Mallory...
But Mallory has the value advantage. By far.:TU:
Amazon is showing great prices and free shipping.:TU:
    #6853M: 6AL with rev limiter= $184
    #6865M: Nitrous, adds a timing retard= $208
#685 : Full features for only $225! I'm liking this one.

JW posted he has 5 MSD 6AL failures in 2003-2005. Possibly due to a manufacturing defect at the time.
It's RobbMc that works for Mallory.:bglasses:

I'm not sure about MSD, but I had to buy a different tach to work with the Mallory box. Either a compatible tach, or a tach adapter was needed. Mallory doesn't mention this in their advertisements, only after you buy it and read the instructions, you find out. Other than having to buy a new tach, I love the Mallory box.

I've had great results with the same MSD 6AL since 1993. I've read some comments that quality may be down since manufacturing was resourced, but no confirmation. I suppse it could happen to any electronics supplier at any time, anyway; so if true it may still be no disadvantage compared to any other company.

I'm running the Mallory Hyfire 6AL. The rev limiter function works great and when I did have a failure under warranty they repaired that unit and returned it to me. That did take some time though. So now I have a spare..............

Steve, I'm still showing $224.76 from Amazon.com. Choose the 'Super Saver' shipping for free shipping. They may be out of stock....they showed 'only 2 left' when I ordered mine last week. I should have it here any day now.

I like the feature on the 686. In addition to the rev control, it has rpm activated switches (I'll hook mine to a shift light), and a switchable retard....I'm going to hook it up to a switch so I can retard the timing a few degrees in case I get some bad gas.
Lots of useful features for only $225!
