Is this a good distributor? I found one for my 4 cylinder which they never made an HEI for. I see Mallory has a Unilite for $140 and says that it can be used with Hyfire CD unit. Is this a good set up? The points/condensor setup is a little lack luster. It's on a swamp buggy that requires absolute dependable service or I'm walkin' home from deep in the swamp. What do you guys think? :Do No:

    Love them unilite's

Well, I've never put one on a mud buggy but the two I've put on our Buicks over the years have served us very well.
Only thing we've ever had to do to them is a cap & rotor every couple of years.

    CIT Poweraddict, help me

I also use unilite, works perfect.
BUT it uses light to trigger so it must be very clean inside, I don't think it will work very well in the swamp unless you seal it with rtv or something. Of course you can clean it and get going again, just hope for you it does not cut out in a 6 feet deep mudhole :)

Ive had the unilite and hyfire in my car for 10 years and have only replaced the cap and rotor.

Sounds good so far. I'm looking for something better than points. The old system is so unreliable. I'll probably get the distributor and Hyfire unit. This engine was really lacking on power partly due to carburation and timing problems. I don't know anything about the Mallory line, but I'm assuming the Hyfire is similar to the MSD unit. Maybe the an MSD 6A will work with the Mallory Unilite. I'll have to check with the local ignition shop. Another option was to send the distributor to Ignition Man for a conversion, but I don't see where he does 4 cyl Chevy on his website.
