The bearings shown in your pictures are the tapered roller bearings. That race will remove from the bearing. Are those the new ones that you just had pressed on,or are those the ones that you found on the shafts when you pulled them out?

Yes, You have definitely have the narrow one on the shaft ... 2146 That will cause a end play issue and probably take out the seal

Those seals may also be too narrow. W have run across MOST name brand seals that are being packaged in the wrong marked boxes. YOU HAVE TO MEASURE them before buying.
Usually if i see the GOLD radius seal i walk away. If you see the sharper more 90 degree edge to the outer diameter of the seal and more flat across the top you are more likely to have a real 712146 seal.

I've been trying to get the old races out of the axle tubes. Those babies are (still) seated in there pretty damn good.

I hope I can get the new ones in.

they make a tool for that. I have an OTC slide hammer with an internal 3 jaw puller. Its an OTC 1179 "Silver Slapper" which Jennifer makes fun of and calls the "Silly Slapper" :spank::Dou::grin: Works like a charm. To install, I use a bearing and race driver set

I have rented a slide hammer, but with only 2 jaws.
Since the race in on the new bearings, and the new bearings are pressed on the axles, I have no idea how I'm supposed to hammer, tap or beat them in.

Is there anything wrong with them? I don't remember removing races when I did my 8.5 years ago.

There was nothing wrong with the old races, but the new bearings are one piece, with the race attached.

The bearings have been replaced before. If you slide those new ones in,the race will separate, and stay in the tube, just like the current ones. There isn't much holding the race to the bearing.
I mailed some parts to you yesterday.

    Thanks Brian.:beer

I went and rented a 3 jaw puller with the 10LB slide hammer. One slide of the hammer on the driver's side and the race came right out.
100 slides of the hammer on the passenger's side and the race won't budge. I'm done for some hours.

This may sound dumb, but make sure you didn't hook the housing instead of just the race. Sometimes the lip of the jaw is deep enough that it goes right by the race and catches the lip of the housing itself. The housing doesnt budge! I tried:grin:. It happened to me once.

what are the parts brian sent you are they like machined shims or something??

Yes, think spacers that go in the axle tube before the bearing.

so then you needed to remove the old race and insert axel with new bearing and race as 1 unit with spacer resting in housing do you have to lube the new race with anything to set it thanks all I'm gratefull for the lessons
