Hey guys I am looking to get my rally wheels rechromed, i am coming up dry to find a shop in Winnipeg to get them chromed. Where are you guys sending your parts to to get chromed these days, seems like alot of shops have closed up that i used years ago? thanks Gordon
Pretty hard to find folks to rechrome wheels anymore. You can pretty much buy new ones cheaper. Bumpers are a whole different story since you can't buy those new.
Those aftermarket wheels rust faster than you can say rust when they are put on any car other than a show car or trailer queen...... The chrome is soooo thin on the china hoops that the weld the on to..... I have finally put together a set of NOS GM wheels but it has taken me several years.... Good luck... Yeah, I got lucky. Found a nice original set of wheels with no rust in a skylark graveyard after giving up trying to get mine rechromed.
You can still find places to get rechroming done, but it is getting pricey, especially for bigger stuff. New Rally wheels run about $230 each (at Summit), which is less than what many/most rechrome shops will charge you. Can't attest to their quality though.
I know repos are economical, I bought a set of Wheel Vintiques and center caps from summit this spring, they are very nice wheels. I want to restore original WG wheels from my 70 gsx, so just cut apart a sacrificial wheel from a 77 to see if I can do them. So apparently no shop in Manitoba does wheel chroming so have to expand my search
