I noticed in Hemmings that there is a '72 Stage 1 convertible being auctioned at Barrett Jackson's Petersen Museum Auction, June 21-22. http://www.barrett-jackson.com/events/petersen/vehicles/cardetail_list.asp?id=174165 The car is described as 48K miles, "1 of 77" built, it looks to be green (is that Hunter Green?) with a saddle interior and top. The condition is not well described, so it was hard to see whether it was fully restored. VIN # is 4G67V2H134036 This should be an interesting sample of what the market value is for a Stage 1. Thoughts...? Stanley
Well, I would only say, it will be a sample of what the Barrett-Jackson market value is. That's a very specific bunch of well-to-do buyers there. Not a reflection of values in the general marketplace...
The full-size picture quality is very poor. I'm surprised they don't get good quality digital photos. The engine compartment looks ok, but needing some detailing. Interior looks nice, hard to comment on the paint/body, as those pics are not good.
Yes.. David.. I generally agree that the BJ prices often go high..though that usually occurs for the rare and exotic.. I have also seen average cars go for some very average prices at the Scottsdale auction. Depending on the condition of this Stage 1, my guess is that we will see some inflation, but not a way-out price. In any event, I thought this is interesting to follow as a point of info. I'll try to get the price posted after it appears on the BJ site. Stanley
Follow-up Hi.. Just to follow-up.. The '72 Stage 1 sold for $18,792...which includes the Barrett Jackson commision of 8%. So the bid price was actually $17,400. Stanley
Re: Follow-up This car is on ebay Here, with a 'Buy It Now' price of $35,900.00 I'll also note the seller contacted me to register the car, which I thought was VERY COOL :bglasses:
Everybody makes a buck.. It looks like a dealer who bought it. Let's see..pay $17,400 plus a buyer's fee plus transportation back to CA..let's say the cost to put it on the ground in CA was $21,000 Sell it for $35,900 with a month. Profit of $14,900...71% return, but with risk. I'd say that's cool, too, if he gets it! Let's keep watching.. Stanley
You didn't clarify what condition it's in, or if maybe he washed it and put on some tire dressing. And who has the motor taken out repainted and reinstalled without opening it up. That's a very strange thing to say.
I emailed the seller and he confirmed it is the same one. He said they are open to offers at less than the "Buy it Now" price Of course, who wouldn't be, if you still make a nice profit. Chris
www.nadaguides.com will give you low average and high retail as a starting point. high retail for that year and model is at least $28,000 for a non # 1 / concurs car.
In case you didn't see... The car was sold for $28,200 on e-bay. A nice piece of change for the dealer. And a market point for value of early 70's Skylarks! Go Buick.. Stanley
The car was BID to $28,200, and the reserve was met, but apparently it did not sell, as the car is relisted by the same seller. Chris
