from your all experience, can I safely get a 275 60 15 on my 7 in ralley for the rear? Tirerack show it requires an 8 inch rim. Will Sidewall be unsafe? Tread wear wrong?

Pretty sure the consensus around here is no a 275/60 is too big for a 7 inch rim.

What I thought. Got 255's on the back now, wanted something not taller, but wider on the 7 inch rim. Good lucking finding the 8 inch rally. Big bucks

The 275's will fit, but it is not optimal. Lots of guys do it any way. Mooney's GS has had 275/60R-15's on it for years. So does Grand Nasty. Both cars have 7" wide rims.

    275/60-15's are fine on a 7" rim.
LOTS of threads about this and LOTS of people, including me have done and are doing it.
They will "pooch" out a very small amount, but not enough to to worry about. Go for it. :beer

Yeah I think those 275's look badass! I have 245 60 15 on front. Do you need less air pressure with the 275's on the 7 inch so that tread wear better?

    I never did.

Do a burnout with them. Then inspect the tire. Worn more in the center? Too much air. Worn on the edges? Not enough air:laugh:

It may not be "optimal" but everybody does it. It is a) a cheap way to get more miles out of the same engine RPM and b) fills up the wheel wheels really well. With 275-60-15s on a standard 15x7 I still have over an inch of clearance between both the inner and outer wheel.

Multiple ways to find optimum tire pressure.

First, do a burnout and check the patch left on the road. Dark outer with light inner patch, too little air, vice versa, too much air. Add or remove 2psi and test again. Do not go below about 26psi or above the tires max rating. I run 30psi in mine.

Second, drive the car at highway speeds and immediately pull over and check the tire temp across the tread. Hotter in the center, too much air, hotter on the edges, too little air, hotter on one side and cooler to the other side, really bad rear diff alignment. :Do No:

That would be my wife and my son :Brow: Not sure if she humors me, but I always drag her to hold the camcorder. Those 255's were courtesy of Ken, techg8. I have roasted them pretty good. The size does look good, but I figured since I am going to order new ones for the upcoming spring why not get a larger tire. Larry your 255's look awesome on the front, but I am not sure if I can get 255's on my front. Your car seems to sit higher. I might swap them today see how it looks. Greg, do you have any pics you could post showing your car with the 275's?

Sure, here's a few at my Picasa page, the last 4 are the most recent and you can click on the magnifying glass to enlarge them for a better look:

Here's one that should show how much room there is:

u really should have 8" rims. what u are doing by using too wide a tire for the rim, is increasing undue stress/force on the tire bead ring which could result in tire failure.

    Gerry,
I've known lots of guys who have put the 275/60-15 on a stock 15 X 7 rim. Like I said, it isn't optimal, but it isn't dangerous either. Jason is going to read your comments, and he won't sleep tonight:laugh:

That would most definately ring true Larry if I had already purchased the tires. :gp:
