Well after what has been a pretty busy summer so far I finally got to do a little racing this weekend. Our local track had there first of two Musclecar Shootsouts this weekend. I didn't expect to set any E.T. records for my car because of the heat but I did set a new best 60 ft time. I had a 1.57 with the new Mickey Thompson Drag Radials. (Previous best before was a 1.59 with the BF Goodrich Drag Radials) I expect to better that this fall when the air is cooler and the track has a bit more bite.

Best E.T. for the day was a 10.47 @ 129, just shy of my best - 10.36 run set last fall in cool air conditions. I'd say with these new tires the car has a 10.20 run or even a 10.teen run this fall with some cold air.

Anyways, it was a fun weekend and nothing broke.

Oh yeah, I won the shootout for my class as well !

All in all I love the new MT Drag Radials and they are lethal on the street as well. (My car hooks good enough on the street to pretty much "mash it" from a dead stop.)

Has anyone else tried these tires ? If so, what do you think of them ?

Please....more info comparing them to the BFG Drag radials !!

    I pretty much obliterate the BFG's no matter what I do - light burnout....heavy burnout....easy leave....hard leave....pressure anywhere's from 13# to 20 # so some comparisons would be GREAT.

    Todd,
I have a brand new set of those M/T's mounted on my car and ready to roll. Just waiting for a good dry day. We are hoping to take them out to Quaker for their first runs Wednesday night for their street wars program. (no rain please)
They look wicked and sure are soft. I have a feeling that these aren't going to last very long :Brow:
I'm glad to hear that you got your best 60' foot with them. I know lots of people are waiting for reports before they buy, we couldn't wait. Took over a month to get them delivered and now it seems like it's been a month since we've been able to get them to the track.
My car just loved the BFG drag radials so I'm hoping that they love these M/T's even more! I'll report back after Wednesday and let everyone know how the hook a slower car :)
Thanks for the report Todd....I've been waiting to hear someone say something about these tires :)

My car worked pretty well with the BF's but I'd say the MT's are definately better. (No contest) Not only are they better but they're more consistent. I had 1.6_ 60 footers all day. With the BF's I would have hit a few 1.6_ 's and a few 1.7_ ' etc. Ya just never knew if they'd bite or not. The MT's bit everytime allowing me to run 1st gear all the way out. (Never had to short shift due to lack of traction)

I use to run about 17 psi in the BF's. I'm running about 20psi in the MT's.

I am doing a short burnout also. Just hazing them a bit and rolling out with them still spinning. Thats it. They work without a huge burnout!

When I ran the 1.57 60 ftr this weekend I had stalled the car up to about 2,500. (Something I could never do with the BF's) If I would have had more time trials (practice runs) I think I could have stalled the car even higher and bettered my 60 foot. We only received 3 time trials and then it was time to eliminate the competition so no more "experimenting". I use to leave off idle with the BF's. (or they'd spin for sure if I tried to stall the converter at all)

Next time out I'm going to try stalling the converter even more and I feel I'll see some 1.50 to 1.55 60 ftrs. Not bad for a drag radial !

Summit or Jegs have these? Where do we get them? I have until October for delivery. Do you suppose they'll work as well or better than Hoosier QT Pros? I won't run any of them on the street so that's not an issue.

    Thanks.

    Go Renee, GO!

They may be tough to get because of the Demand for them but Summit and Jegs do carry them. You'll just have to keep calling until they have them. Or put your name on there back order list.

Can't tell ya for sure if they'll work as good as the Hoosiers since I've never tried the Hoosiers. I bet they'd be real close though. I can tell ya that a buddy of mine who was also at the shoot out this weekend has the Hoosiers and his 60 ftrs were in the 1.6 area. He couldn't believe I was getting 1.5_s/1.6_'s with the MT's.

What size M/T Drag Radials are you running and are you still using the 8" wheels?

    Are these DOT tires?
    Thanks Glen

I'm using a 275/60x15 which I believe is the only size MT has available at this time. More sizes should be available next summer.

    8" rim.

And yes, they're street legal. (and actually ride really nice on the street)

Gary, M/T lists Les Schwab as a distributor for their tires. Are you still buddies with the Orange-From-Hell's former owner? Aw crud, that was Big-O wasn't it..

Somebody tell me how they compare to ET Streets.....:Do No:

Great to hear about the MTs. I just bought what I am told was the first set of the M&H 275/60/15 drag radials. Bought them from John at 661-324-4773. He said they have twelve sets but has a list to call to see who gets them. He gave me a great price and is having them drop shipped from the factory. Call him if you want to try and get a pair. PM me if you want the specifics. You can check them out at www.intercotire.com/html/radial_racing.htm
I hope to have them at Salem at the BPG event and see how they do.

Alan, if Summit has them, you can pay for them over the phone and have them hold them at the store. I just happen to be going there when we're in Salem, so you're welcome to hop in the truck with me and take a ride to go pick 'em up! I stop there every time I'm passing through the area and I can't seem to get enough of the place! It's always "Oh wait, I just remembered something else I need!" When I get inside, I'm like a drug addict in a drug store! gimmee, gimmee, gimmee!!

I ordered two 15x8 Buick ralley wheels from Summit like 6 weeks ago and was told that they would be here on July 21. Now they tell me maybe August 20! I have two Hoosier slicks with nothing to mount them on. Where can I get some 15x8's for Salem??? Anyway make sure what your getting is in stock!!!

I get my Mickies at Discount Tire. Last set I got were here in less than a week. Of course MT is just up road in the LA area, I think.

They get them from Wheel Vintiques. If you can get their # , you can call them direct. Maybe they have them in stock. I guess if they did though, they'd go ahead and ship them to Summit first. Worth a try.

Which rim is it that is used with the dog dish hub caps? It would be nice to have them in a 15x8 for the rear too.

Most of the wheel companys can make you a set of "Steelies" in any width and offset you desire...just be sure to tell them you will be using the "poverty caps", as they use a different center piece when building the wheels. The correct centers will have the three small raised areas for the hubcaps to snap over.
