I'm about to transplant a 73' 455 into my 66' Sportwagon and I'm unsure how to intergrate the micro switch with the linkage on the 455. Is there a possibility of eliminating the switch altogether? If not, what is the best method to make the new set up work?

Hi Sportmonster, OK I am going to stick my big toe in the water here.

I see no problem doing away with the micro switch if it is to big of a hassle to plumb it in to your linkage. Of course mine is in so what do I know? I have heard of people tieing it into their brake circuit but I don't know how much current the solenoid draws and what your brake light switch can handle.

Right before I tore my 66 Riv apart I played around with the switch and it's operation. I was not happy with the stator change at 80% throttle so I unplugged and jumpered the harness from the dashpot and rerouted the control wire to the console where I put a heavy duty doorbell switch on the underside of the shift handle. This way the stator pitch would change when only I wanted it to. Of course the micro switch was still there and changed pitch at 0 pedal to smooth it out at idle, if you can hook up to the brakes it should do the same thing as the micro switch.

I only got to drive it a few weeks with it rigged up this way but I liked the way it acted. We have open roads up here and it is alot better to go to high pitch when you want to pick up a little speed. It also seemed to give me a little better mileage (maybe).

I don't know if this helped, I hope so.
    Good luck, Lou

The micro switch is for high stall when you are at a stop light with your foot off the gas. The solenoid draws about 1 amp. The kickdown switch that hooks to the carbwill be more difficult. You could find the engine beacket for the switch from a 400 or 430 motor , but you still need modify the linkage on the carb to make this work. I just did this this week for a local guy with a 66 lesabre that he changed to an edelbrock carb. Jim Burek

    Carbs

I have an original Q-Jet off a 67 430/auto that has the linkage to connect to the manifold mounted switch.
PM if that is the way you want to go.
