Does anyone have any feedback regarding the Tilton, Powermaster and TCI mini-starters?

I'm thinking of a TCI (priced under $200).

I've looked at past threads but didn't see anything on TCI.

    Thanks,

    John

I run the Tilton in my 11:1 464 and it's been flawless for a couple years now.

There's a guy on this board that makes and sells mini-starters for our cars. His name is Tom Telesco and his shop is in Stamford, Ct. His number there is 203-324-6045. He's a Buick lover and especially is into the Rivs.

He showed me the starters he has and they look like a quality piece. I don't know what he gets for them as he was showing off his workmanship to me and I wasn't looking for a starter at the time. It did look well made and I believe he said replacements parts are readily available, should a failure occur.

I think Yardley is going to see him this weekend if you want a second opinion.

Just trying to give a Buick brother a plug. :TU:

    Hope this helps!

(PS- I just picked up my carb from him today that he rebuilt- two to three day turnaround, pretty cool)

It'd be nice to see the product in the "vendor section"

Thanks for the lead and to everyone else for the feedback.

John, I bought one of those mini's off ebay last fall for 120 bucks, they are some standard GM application and have an adaptor for the 455. The guy is out of california and after the board members helped him get the adaptor right mine has worked just fine. I have just under 14to1 Comp. Turns over with no problems.

I know there are a few others on the board with the same starter.

I have a TCI on my small block. It is nothing special, but it does the job.

For some strange reason (a curse?) I have always had starter problems with my car. I finally got the gear mesh right with a new stick flywheel, and had to slightly MILL the starter "block" to get the starter gear closer to the flywheel.

Even still, I always spin the engine and then kick the ignition power because it starts so much easier that way.

This gentleman sells them for nailheads only. I suppose you aren't interested in that though:grin:

I believe he is a member of the board...telriv@msn.com
