I would like to make a list of salvage yards in MN and surrounding areas that have older cars. I only know of a couple.
    1. Windy Hills (Dont know a phone# or a web site.)

    Bob,
Depends on what kind of cars you are looking for. Bridley's on US 65 between Glenville and Gordonsville has some A bodies but little for big cars, with the exception of a good selection of 58 Buicks, even Limited's. Hazer's in West Fargo has a ton of 60's to 70's cars, but are threatening to crush out. Rohner's out in Willmar has lots of Buicks, but some are stacked 2 high. I'll have to think about other out there!
    Thanks,
    Tim McCluskey :Comp:

Yeah, lots of 60's and 70's, but almost all big Buicks, only a couple A bodies, in rough shape. Hadn't heard about the crushing deal, any solid info on that? It's too bad, there are a LOT of cars there in their OLD car yard, but they think their stuff is made of gold too. I've had less than pleasant experiences with them.

Unfortunately, my one and only visit there sounds like it was about in line with your experiences...

Not TOO wet here, most of the rain stayed south of us, but of course the Red River flows north, so we're starting to see rising river levels, will be over flood stage, but nothing serious. I think in the past few days we've had the equivalent of about 5" of rain, in the snow that has melted. Not really any snow left at all.

Don't know if you'll have any luck finding stuff for your 75, I think most of the big cars were not that new. Rivs were early 70's, and BIG buicks were older yet, IIRC. A few of the TC full-size owners were out at Hazer's last summer, or the year before, I'll bet they would know what's there too. I haven't been there for about 3 yrs maybe, not planning on ever going back.

    Hazer's and other stuff

    Dave,
I talked with Duane about a year ago, he was telling us that West Fargo was going to redevelop the land the old yard is on. Don't know why they would, there is nothing but farm fields north of it! Prices of scrap are down somewhat from the highs of 2 summers ago, so the crushing may slow down. I have a pretty good relationship with Duane, but another group that went up after me got soaked pretty good for some Wildcat body trim.

    Bob,
I'd just google or 411.com the phone numbers. Some yards have a very good idea of what type of stuff they have, other's don't have a clue. Rohner's is not to be missed if you are into cars at all. They have over 2,000 cars, most from the 60's and 70's. FLAP and Windy Hill's are still adding vintage tin, most additions at Rohner's are late model stuff.

    Hi Greg,
We count on YOU and Todd to find the new"old" yards! LOL!!! Hope everything is going well and you are back out searching for Buick parts.
    Take Care Everyone,
    Tim :Comp:

I don't recall the names, but the Bemidji area has about 4 yards. I've done ok there in years past.

    Bemidji Yards

    Carl,
Some of us from the Twin Cities are into big Buicks, Riv's and Wildcats and Electra's, any of the Bemidji yards seem to have some of these? When was the last time you visited these yards? We are finding that alot of times we are just in front of or just behind the crusher! Thanks for the help,
    Tim McCluskey

    Weekley Auto Parts

    Grand Forks, ND 701-772-2112

HUGE place. Lots and lots of cars, really a two day trip to make it through that yard and there is another old car yard right next door. Cannot remember the name of it right now. Both are supposedly yards that will pull parts for you. Weekley's pulls, the old fella next door might...depending on his mood that day. Worth a trip up, but may be a little pricey on stuff if you are from out of town.

Carney's (I can't find that card) has a few older Buicks. They are located in Austin. Let them know you are looking for the older yard. Very nice people to deal with and I was very happy with their prices.

S & S Auto in Oslo or Hayfield, MN had a couple older Buicks. It's 80's Regal heaven for sure.

That's a couple more. I'd like to see some more up North listed. Especially around Brainerd/Bemidji area.

Tim-I had to laugh when I saw the comment about Hazer's and the group getting soaked. I'm sure my brother still wouldn't find it funny but I was reading wondering did he mean the 4-12" of standing water in the yard that we had to slog through or the prices...or both. I think like any yard, sometimes you get a nice deal, sometimes not. Just depends on how badly you want something.

It's been a couple of years. Hensley's (or something like that) was one of them that had old stuff, seems to me some full size too. However, 2 words of caution. 1) Not cheap and 2) On another forum, there was some skullduggery involving him or one of his employees on another forum over a sale on some rare, high buck Pontiac engine parts. Not sure how that one ever worked out. Seems to me one was called Monty's or Montee's, something like that. Can't remember the other 2 names.

    Wildcat 62

Weekleys is a challenge to deal with. High prices, some days won't let you browse, sometimes you have to leave your actual drivers licence with them at the front counter while you browse :Do No: , never calls back if you ask to have a call when the parts are pulled. Next door the yard is called Swanglers. He has a fair number of full size GM's, lots of 60's and 70's stuff. I get along good with him, but it has taken many visits to get to that point. He's not cheap either, but he has some stuff. He has at least 6 or 7 Riv's in the 67 to 70 era. I posted a pic of the cluster of them on here about a year or so ago.

Swanglers has a 68 GS400 out front and I asked about the wheels as they were the disc brake style "XB" code with caps and he said 600.00 dollars and I said thank you and have a nice day.

Weekly's is expensive and can be a challenge to work with. The problem with that yard is its always wet, flooded in 97, and the dirt is very acidic and the cars sit on the ground. He wanted $50 a wheel molding and the guys used a grinder to get a couple of screws off and nicked really nice wheel moldings! :af:

Kris-North Star (218-829-2769) is about 15 miles south of Brainerd off Hwy 25. They have a mix of older and newer that are generally not too picked over-not as many 60's Buicks as some of the other yards mentioned. Also, Dean's (218-829-3561) in Baxter about the same, but more picked over.
Greg-you and Todd get on up here and we'll all do the yards again.
As Tim said, after about 'crushing out' the older cars, Windy Hills has actually added some old iron in the last year-

I'm going to be at Itasca State park for 5 days the end of June...may have to take a day a go to the yards around Bemidji!

I've been to NorthStar, but it's been about 4 years. They did have 1 76 Lesabre, but it was pretty picked over....They had a really nice mid-80's Grand Prix T-top that I should have bought :( Brainerd / Baxter is a quick trip from the cities and may just have to take a day trip up there is May....

Junkyard guys are a breed all their own. Thank God. We all die and can't take anything with us. These fools think they can take the parts with them I guess. :error:
