Found a fantastic deal on ebay for a rochester 2G for a 1975-1976 buick 350. Wanting to put it on a 70 engine/car. The mounting plate looks to be a matchup, and the overall design looks quite simmilar, but the 75-76 carb has extra vac ports and what-not. So what's the deal??? Bolt it on and plug up the extra ports? Or am I asking for trouble? Thanks
I'm not sure about your question but I do have the original 2GC carb off my 76 Buick Century I'd sell cheap, also intake if needed. It hasn't been messed with and it is fully complete. I can take pics if you PM, Sean.
Looking at Doug Roe's Rochester carb book, there's not a lot of detail, but I get the impression that the 2G series carbs weren't all that different from each other, so I wouldn't see a problem with blocking off extra vacuum ports. 2G = Manual choke 2GC = Automatic choke (coil on carb) 2GV = Automatic ckoke (coil on manifold) However, there are several different sizes of 2G's: 1-1/4" flange, 1-7/16" bore, 1-3/32" venturi = 278cfm 1-1/2" flange, 1-11/16" bore: 1-3/16 venturi = 352cfm 1-1/4 venturi = 381cfm 1-5/16 venturi = 423cfm 1-3/8 venturi = 435cfm *Note - 2bbl carbs rated at 3"Hg pressure drop, 4bbl carbs rated at 1.5"Hg pressure drop, so cfm comparisons to 4bbls need to be adjusted. (but I don't know how...)
Sean- Appreciate the offer, but I'm looking at a new re-manufactured carb with a buy it now price of $35.... Kind of hard to pass on that offer. James- Thanks. I went by the auto parts store last night and matched up the gaskets from a 70 and a 76, and it looks like it will fit. Thanks guys
I think I've found what you're looking at...that looks like a good deal. I'd ask to get the carb #, though, just to make sure. They've got 3, I might pick up one for my OMC I/O engine...
