Here is your missioin, if you choose to accept it. Me and my crazy ways have decided to completely overhaul my stock 430-4 Wildcat motor in my 1967 Buick Riviera. What Exhaust, Heads, Headers, Carburetor, Manifold, Water Pump, Fuel Pump, etc. do I need? Remember Gentlemen, you are speaking to a 22 year old man, and this is my FIRST classic. Lamens terms, I am an idiot.ou: I've attempted massive hours of research to my current project and have had mixed answers, mainly that the parts were not compatiable with my motor. Your participation is GREATLY appreciated, and will not go without reward! The updated pics will be posted each step of the way, :blast:I am sick and tired of the little "Rice Rockets" trying to dust my V8 Big Block! I want them to hear me in the surrounding states and scare young children and animals!:blast: With much appreciation and graditude, Noah1967
one website...or a few:grin: www.taperformance.com www.trishieldperf.com www.paeenterprises.com See other sites here: http://www.buickpartsdirectory.com/engine.htm I don't think you'll have a problem dusting the ricers when you get done:Brow:
thanks but what parts do you suggest? there are plenty of parts out there, and which is optimal for buicks :Brow: cuz ya know, its gotta be a buick...
Hey Adam! Shame on you! He has a 67 Riv so Noah, go here: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jholthenrichs and look at my old 430 build and my new 455 build. Depending on your budget, there are several things to do for a build. We'll talk about which are more important. With the 430 you should: have the oil passages opened up to 5/8" use TA's 5/8" center sump have front and rear baffles welded into your oil pan (making sure your dip stick still fits) The center sump pan won't hold oil in under rapid acceleration Use a Stage1 fuel pump (elongate the holes so the pump slides forward enough to clear the Rollmaster Double roller timing chain and 9-way gear install cam on a 108* centerline fully port your timing cover TA's oil pump booster plate and adjustable regulator magnaflux your heads (the 430s are prone to cracking) have Stage1 valves installed in your heads head porting is the #1 best thing for improving a Buick's performance have the heads cut to use TA's 1125 dual valve springs use TA's 288-94H cam (with the weight of our cars this cam is ideal) your 430 rockers are OK, but if you find 455 Stage1 heads you'll need to make a change with the pushrods because the 455 oils differently than the 430 a 2500 stall convertor will really get you rolling TA's teflon dual grooved cam bearings align hone mains BALANCE ENGINE! set rod and main clearances at NO MORE than 2 thousandths (.002) TA's SP1 or Edelbrock Performer or B4B intake (B4B only available used) If using a Q-jet have John Osborn rebuild yours If using a Holley have Jet Performance do a Stage2 build on it Have your points distributor converted to electronic by www.davessmallbodyheis.com use dave's distributor as an MSD trigger if you have cash The only headers available for your car are TA's Shorties, and they are beauties. Use 2.5" or 3" exhaust Be clean! Paint everything you remove (brackets and such), and detail the bay when the engine is out. Replace everything that is worn, like the driver's side engine mount. TA has OEM new harmonic balancers. Yours is an antique and surely ready to come apart. I recommend getting a new one. Also, TA has nice quality water pumps. Be sure your fan clutch is working OK and use a fan shroud if yours happens to be missing. Finding a 3.42 posi rear from a Riv GS is sooooo worth the effort of looking. PM or email me with questions, and welcome aboard. Ask all you can now. Because afterward it'll only be costing you twice as much money if it isn't done right in the first place. Trust me on that one!:stmad:
hehe....I didn't pick that one up - should have directed him to your site:error: But you didn't include your name in the link you gave. That link takes you to the Comcast homepage!
thanks gents! that info blew away the mind! ha ha ha, anyways one major question, BRAKES? should i stay drum, or go to disk? o No:
There are no cost-effective disk brake conversions available out there. One is being worked on now, and Master Power Brakes has one but you have to send them your spindle including the backing plate and they fit a Pontiac rotor and caliper to them. It is like 2 grand. The enormous finned aluminum drums we have are adequate. It hauls my beast down from the traps at over 100 MPH with no problems. Yeah, brake fade can be an issue if you really heat them up, but normal driving and the occasional quarter mile blast shouldn't be an issue. Put your money elsewhere in your Riv until a real conversion is developed.
my exhaust ok, ive lifted my car on the rack and seen some interesting things, first my exhaust is like an x, kinda. so here's the questions, one, whats the best way to fix the hole in the exhaust, and two, that x, is it easy to install glass packs, etc. or will i even need them after all that fun stuff?  currently, i am just trying to do a check on all things on my vehicle, to see if i need to repair/replace things BEFORE doing anythign to the motor, i figure it would be best that way or BOOM! something could go wrong somehow, i do have that luck:af:
